PLEASE NOTE: This product only includes Landmaster Tri-Star wheels. The tank body depicted in certain images is there for contextual purposes only, and is NOT included in this product.

Tri-star wheel arrangement. The concept was originated by Robert and John Forsyth, of Lockheed, in 1967. It is most known for having been used by the Landmaster vehicles in the 1977 post-apocalyptic movie Damnation Alley. The main advantage of the design is that if one wheel gets stuck on an obstacle, the next wheel will rotate over it and thus clear the obstacle. I am unsure of its applicability in real life, but in Make-Belief Land the tri-star wheels are suitable for rough terrain (and for running over radscorpions...).
The Landmaster Tri-star kit is mainly intended to be used with the Modular Superheavy Tank by Sharedog Miniatures (sold separately, see link below). Most of the wheel models have been specifically adjusted to make them compatible with the Modular Superheavy Tank. But there is also set of tri-star wheels included that is suitable for use with vehicles from other tabletop miniatures manufacturers. See detailed list below.

Detailed list

This product includes a number of different tri-star versions.

  • A set of normal proportioned wheels (divided into left, right, front and rear models).
  • A set of oversized wheels (divided into left and right models).
  • Another set of oversized wheels, but with the protective rail removed from much of the models.
  • A set of wheels (divided into left and right models) that are not intended to be used with the Modular Superheavy Tank, but instead as alternative propulsion for tabletop vehicles in general. Whereas the wheel models intended for use with the Modular Superheavy Tank have uneven inward-facing surfaces (see images) that might make them difficult to use with other vehicles, the inward facing surfaces of the non-specific wheels are flat and relatively easy to kitbash with any type of vehicle.
  • Finally, the Landmaster Tri-star kit also includes a dozer blade, and a Landmaster name sign used in Damnation Alley.

Assembly

You will have to print a minimum of 4 models to make a full set of ordinary size wheels. You will have to print a minimum of 2 models for a full set of oversized wheels. Mounting the wheels onto the Modular Superheavy Tank is relatively easy - just push the wheels horizontally onto the main tank body, inserting the studs of the main tank body into the corresponding holes on the tri-star wheel models. See image gallery for further information. Note that glue will likely be required to hold the model parts together.

Recommended Scale

The tri-star wheels are primarily intended for use in 28mm scale tabletop games, but will likely work for any scale down to and including 20mm scale. The wheels are primarily intended to be used as alternative propulsion for the Modular Superheavy Tank kit made by Sharedog Miniatures, sold separately. Link below. All model parts in the Landmaster Tri-Star Wheels kit have been prescaled to fit the default scale of the Modular Superheavy Tank. As long as you alter neither model size-wise, they should fit together. But always check the size of all models prior to printing to make sure.
The wheels are also reasonably compatible with tanks from other miniatures manufacturers.

3D printing settings

Relatively high printer settings are recommended (0,08 mm layer height, 20 percent infill).

No model parts are presupported. If you want the kit with its part presupported, you can contact the designer and request this.
