Kompi v3 | the 3D printable clamp-on mattebox

Kompi v3 is a 3D printable clamp-on mattebox.
My goal with Kompi was to maximize the usable wideangle on my anamorphic setups, that's why it has no classic filter trays which would add distance and could lead to vignette.

Kompi v3 takes up to two 4x4 or 4x5,65 filters and comes with a few different backplates in different sizes: 80mm, 85mm, 95mm, 100mm and 114mm. Just like on an Abracam mattebox, the filters touch each other so make sure they are clean before you insert them into Kompi.
This mattebox is not small to properly accommodate for the filter size, which means that it might collide with your 15mm rods if your setup doesn't have the standard LWS height. If you do have a lower profile, choose shorter rods to avoid collision.

Kompi v3 weights around 180g (114mm back, with flag), so it's good for gimbal use or helicoids of questionable quality.

The name Kompi originates from the german word for mattebox: Kompendium

What about v3?

Kompi was designed selfishly around parts I had at home. As I mainly had M2.5 in many shapes and sizes I used them majorly, also I targeted 95 outer diameters. Later I noticed that 95mm would've been too small for my setup and 114mm wouldn't properly work in my design, also the (uncommon) M2.5 screws I used turned out to behave badly. The filter locking mechanism based on springs out of ball pens, this worked well enough but was not ideal; as it held the filter from above it couldn't hold more than one filter properly in case they were not exactly the same height, also I feared about the strength. Before I could finish this build, my 3D printer died on me and I suspended the design for the time beeing; I did release the models on Thingiverse, yet I wasn't really happy with it.
After getting a new printer, I started from scratch with Kompi v2. I now planned around more common M3 screws and also wanted to fully support 114mm outer diameters to properly use Kompi on my Rectilux HardcoreDNA. The filter locking was the same as v1 and while it worked, I was never really convinced by the construction.
A friend of mine, Tomas O., brought the Abracam matteboxes to my attention. Their designs are terrific and Kompi is no match for their professional appereance and usability, but of course I don't try to act like I'm aiming that high. Their clip-like mechanism to hold filters did inspire me to use a similar one in my design, so I stripped down Kompi v2 completely and began what eventually became the now available v3. With the new locking mechanism I could also enable it to hold two filters.

Naturally, Kompi v1 got little traction and adding the version number might seem confusing to some. But what can I say - I come from vfx, I stand by my versions :)
