Woodkey - a 3D printed Keyholder

Woodkey - a 3D printed Keyholder Free 3D print model

Description

A holder for 2 or 4 keys. Version with a cutout for Wood Veneer, so it is a bit more stylish than just plastic. This will require some simple tools and post-processing to get it right. Files include the keyholder and a template for the wood veneer, or CNC machining the veneer.

Also includes a ring for your car keys. Model made with a CNC and aluminium material used. Cad and cam in fusion 360. Included the dxf file for CNC.

There is a template included, this can be used to draw the outlines on the veneer. Then cut out the shape with a small knife and sand it down until it fits. Using a bolt and a nut to keep the two pieces and your keys together. A few rings between the holder and the keys could work better. Use the DXF file for CNC machining.

Some veneer is very weak and will break easily when cut. I used superglue to strengthen the wood and then cut it out. Once the veneer is in place use some glue on top and sand it down for a smooth finish. If you use a little bit too much superglue it will fill the edges next to the wood.

You can also finish it with oil. Be carefull not to have superglue get to the top (otherwise try to sand it down a little) as this can still be seen after applying oil. If you have a constant layer of superglue on top and then use oil (I used tung oil) you'll get a very nice finish.
