Description

The Chicago Masonic Temple was a 302ft (92m) tall skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois. Designed by Burnham & Root and built in 1892, it was Chicago's 2nd tallest building. The enormous building stood at the corner of Randolph and State St in the heart of the Loop. It was demolished in 1939 to make way for the underground portion of the Red Line that runs underneath State St and due to the building quickly becoming outdated. Today it remains one of the tallest buildings demolished in Chicago and one of the city's most tragic losses.
