3D model description

Updated design is uploaded. New design may work better for thinner more high quality films (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2446643)

Note: I am working on better version for mounting very thin filter material. I got some BAADER solar filter film and it is tissue paper thin. This lens hood would not be able to accommodate this kind of film well I feel. I won't be able to test print and fit anything together for a couple weeks though (Aug. 2+).

INSTRUCTIONS: You only need to download and print 2 items, a body and the clip. There are 3 bodies to choose from: main-body doesn't have a hood, main-body-w-hood has a hood, main-body-w-hood-thinned has a hood that it a little thinner and narrower to save plastic/print time. That's all you need for a functioning filter holder.

Optional parts include:
-Rear cap: cover the lens side of the filter holder.
-Front cover: This is for the main-body without hood.
-Lens hood cover: This is for the thick lens hood.
-Lens hood cover thinned: This is for the thinned lens hood.

07/18/17 Updated rear cap. Hopefully fits now.

07/17/17 Updated rear cap. Test print wouldn't fit.

07/14/17 Working on a version that is less bulky and less wasteful. Upon review of the model after printing I think for a full redesign I would not use a square 100mm sheet. I would cut it down smaller and circular to save on plastic and make everything more compact. That said, I will not be changing the design that far. Just slimming it down as best I can with minimal work input. There are much more efficient designs here on Thingiverse if you don't want to use a ton of plastic.

Designed this for 100mm square (~4") solar filter sheet. It is a snug fit on my lens, I suggest you cancel a test print to make sure your fits on your lens printing on your printer. Scale slightly as needed.

I've been printing out of ABS since it will be out in the sun, and in my car on the road trip out there. PLA might work OK if you're careful not to overheat it.

The specific filter material in my examples is this one. The price when I ordered was $9.99, as of August, 6th 2017 the price has been increased 5 fold. Shop around and find something more reasonably priced online. And more importantly check out my redesign linked to at the top of this description.

This is my first design using Fusion 360.
