3D model description

The Tourbillon Mechanica is an almost entirely 3D printed functional mechanical clock (except for metal pins and screws). It is designed as a functional mechanical sculpture rather than a precise time-keeping clock.

It has a skeletonized structure with a tourbillon escapement designed to showcase a basic mechanical watch's mechanism. It has a unique hour and minute indicator that runs around the perimeter not to obstruct the entire mechanism.

Please download the free sample of the escapement mechanism and verity that you can assembly a functional escapement before deciding to purchase the model: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/gadget/tourbillon-mechanica-escapement-model

More details about the design, printer requirement, materials and non-printable hardwares can be found in the documentation that can be downloaded for free via the link below:

There is also a detailed assembly video guide in my youtube channel: https://youtu.be/E9prY3ky6Bo
(Kindly note that the pdf guide is still required to go along with the video assembly)

3D printing settings

As a general guideline, four outer perimeters for 0.3mm nozzle and outer wall print speed of 12-18mm/s speeds are recommended for parts with fine details such as gears and Tourbillon parts. Avoid using abrasive PLA such as the ones with particle fills as they could introduce friction to the mechanism. I find Hatchbox standard PLA to work well as they print fine details well and have a low friction surface finish.

Tip: I find it extremely helpful to reduce the extruded line thickness slightly. E.g., for a 0.3mm nozzle, set the line width to 0.27-0.28mm. This seems to yield a slightly better-printed resolution.

Once again, more details can be found in the assembly guide:
