3D model description

Intended for 3d print.

A map of medieval Scandinavia and the baltic region. Included in the kit are:

  • A map with a hexagonal grid overlay and notable town name tags
  • A map with the grid, but without the name tags
  • A map without grid or name tags
  • A frame you can insert the map into
  • 5 hex-based game pieces (town, mountain, forest, infantry and cavalry)

The map comes in two variants: A onepiece variant, and a variant that has been cut into 35 separate pieces. Use the latter if you want to print the map at a larger size than your printer allows- you can scale each separate piece up to the maximum size you can fit onto your printing bed, and print them one by one. Or you can just cut the onepiece map into whatever number of pieces you want, using a slicer software.

The frame also comes in two variants: Onepiece and modular. The modular variant has been cut into 48 separate pieces, for the same reason as above. The pieces are connected together using shelf pins included in the kit (see image gallery for more info. I also recommend adding glue to keep the pieces together, just to be on the safe side).
Note that you can assemble complete frames using fewer than 48 pieces - minimum size is 4 pieces (using the four corner pieces, enumerated #1, #6, #43 and #48)). The 48 piece variant is for large maps, approximately 90 cm x 80 cm or even larger depending on the capacity of your 3d printer.

You can also use the map without the frame, if you don't like it or want to save print time and material.

No ruleset is included in this product - you'll either have to use the map with any of the many hex-based tabletop game rulesets out there, or make up your own.

If you download and print the map kit, any feedback or requests would be very welcome. If the interest is there, I might make more hex-based maps in the future -the frame included in this kit could easily accomodate other maps using the same dimensions.

3D printing settings

Relatively high printer settings are recommended for the map and game pieces.

The frame can probably stand to be printed at mid-to-low settings.

Printing time depends entirely on hardware, selected size, selected model(s) selected settings et cetera. But expect to put a lot of hours of printing time into printing a complete set of map, frame, decorations and game pieces. As a point of reference, the onepiece map alone takes 200+ hours when printed at the default size of approximately 90x80cm.

No model parts are presupported (most parts don't need supports at all).
If getting presupported models are important to you, you can contact me and I'll include presupported versions in the product.
