3D model description

You broke the little flap of the fuel tank tube feeding mouth and lost your original Fiat Palio cap because of it and now looking for an original replacement of the cap with the drum included will cost you a finger of your hand and if you put it on you would lose it again because since the mouth does not have the little flap, the cap with the original drum would fall off again and getting the little black plastic part with the little flap so that the cap does not fall off seems impossible to get?

The solution is usually to install a standard, cheaper thread and cap, but even those also fall off easily, or at least that's how it happened to me.

Tired of buying spare parts, I designed this temporary cover. It serves me so that at least no garbage or little thing gets into the tank through the mouth. It's a simple but functional design, and at least until I install a new standard lid or get a replacement tank mouth with the flap intact (or I'm even considering creating a printable model of that as well), this temporary lid will do the job.

The vehicle I installed this on was a '97/'00 Fiat Palio, but in theory it would work for any vehicle with sufficient diameters to fit the parts.

3D printing settings

-I have printed it in PLA (thread and cap).

-normal 0.8

-it is convenient to print the lid with the "face" down .

-fill in lid; 50% . Filling in thread 100% . filling in base 100% .

-The "base" must be printed in a flexible filament, or more "rubbery", because this piece serves to dampen the vibrations of the car with the hard parts (thread and lid). To print the base I used Grilon3 Simpliflex filament.

INSTALLATION:

Once the parts are printed, screw and unscrew the cap with the thread so that both parts soften a little. Just enough to be able to screw and unscrew the lid easily and not to be unscrewed easily.

Once this has been achieved, separate thread and cap to proceed with the actual installation.

Place a flexible glue (e.g. Unipox) on one side of the base. Then glue it on the surface of the car, surrounding with the base the mouth of the fuel pipe. Make sure that the glue is well fixed, using force compressing the glue. Let it dry for about 4 hours. Then, verify that the base was firmly glued, and proceed to do the same procedure with the thread, that is to say, to place glue on the thread and to glue this one on the base. Compress firmly to make it firm. Let it dry for 4 hours or until it is unmountable.

Once fixed, proceed to screw the cover. Check that it can be screwed on and off.

NOTE: Some surfaces on the circumference of the fuel nozzle may contain protruding screws. If so, mark on the base and thread where those screws go and then proceed to drill holes in both parts with a hot screwdriver or something to create the holes for the printed parts mentioned. I had to do it (see photos)
