Jump in the Line, babe, Beetlejuice is back! Or rather, he will be with the release of Beetlejuice 2, projected for Fall 2024. As any fan of the original film knows, he's the ghost with the most, and he's not afraid of anything... except the Ghost-Devouring Sandworm of Saturn! (aka Sandwormland)
We were so excited to hear about the sequel, we just had to make a 3D printable model to celebrate. So here it is. The Beetlejuice Sandworm Wall Mounted Shelf.
The new film is big news, so we made it a big shelf for everyone with larger 3D printers. And, we also sized it down to accommodate standard-size 3D print beds.
Large or medium size, you'll find the shelf prints out in two pieces. First is the oval shelving unit. It has two beveled nail holes embedded in the back for easy wall mounting, and two shelves for showing off your favorite crystals, figurines and other knick-knacks. The middle shelf goes straight across, while the bottom shelf is a split level to provide more space to decorate.
PRINTING & COLORING THE SHELF
The first thing you need to do is determine what size shelf to print. The Medium Shelf spans 220mm in width, and will print on a standard-size 3D printer (235x235). The Large Shelf measures 281mm across, suitable for a 3D printer volume of 300x300 or more.
The STL Files include:
- Beetlejuice Shelf LRG - Shelf
- Beetlejuice Shelf LRG - Worm
- Beetlejuice Shelf MED - Shelf
- Beetlejuice Shelf MED - Worm
Print the Shelf and Worm files for your chosen size. When printing the Worm, you will need to print it in two colors. If you're not familiar with dual-layering, don't worry - it's easy, and most printers are capable. You can either set up a 'Pause at Height' in Cura or (if your printer doesn't take well to the Pause extension), tell your printer to BEEP! at the precise moment the filament needs to be changed (works on any printer with a built-in speaker). Use the following links for a quick tutorial.
Using one of these techniques, start printing the Sandworm cover panel in Black, then change the filament to White as it progresses. The white area is raised. Preview the file after slicing to make sure you've set the correct layer height to change the filament.
If your printer is not capable of auto-pausing mid-print and does not have a speaker to make sound, you can always paint the raised edges white. Just take your time. It will be worth it :-)
ASSEMBLY
Now for the easy part. With your two pieces printed, align the Sandworm onto the shelf unit so that the worm hides the edges of the shelf. Then, glue the front panel into place. Allow it plenty of time to dry before mounting it on the wall.
DIMENSIONS
As previously noted, the Beetlejuice Sandworm Shelf (or Betelgeuse as his tombstone reads) comes in two sizes - Medium for standard-sized printer beds, and Large for print volumes of 300x300 and up. The dimensions of each shelf fully assembled are as follows:
LARGE WALL SHELF SIZE (300x300 + Print Volume)
X = 28.2cm / 11.1in
Y = 27.3cm / 10.7in
Z = 6.2cm / 2.44in
MEDIUM WALL SHELF SIZE (235x235 + Print Volume)
X = 22.0cm / 8.7in
Y = 21.3cm / 8.4in
Z = 6.2cm / 2.44in
