3D model description

Long overdue update: I’ll reevaluate thingiverse hosting if it has stabilized. For a significant period of time, I couldn’t post, edit, or update files, downloads wouldn’t work, and the site was just totally unstable. On top of that, piracy ran rampant and I have found several of my and other creators’ non-commercial works offered for sale around the web. However this and other of my designs on thingiverse are all largely outdated, and so for private use only I will rehost their original file sets. If you like what I do and want to support me continuing to do it, check out the etsy; I use earnings from that to justify buying filament, hardware, and printers.

Thank you for your support.

I'm happy to announce my newest printable blaster, the:

#Meaker Mark 29 Gryphon - "Opinicus"

A manually actuated semi-auto mag fed on-the-fly top loading flywheel blaster with (optional) onboard battery storage (storage stock from Flyagonial's original Gryphon should still work fine if you want that, and I'd like to sort out a slicker battery storage option with the battery weight still kept toward the rear).

This has been tested and works well for me. Your mileage may vary. Update: Brought to my attention that I need to specify: this has been tested with NERF-brand magazines. I had to iterate a few times to get the feed lined up correctly - the centers of darts in NERF-brand magazines do not align with the center of the arc formed by the feed lips on the magazine, the dart sits much higher than you'd expect. In different magazines with different feed lip geometry this well may not work as expected because there is no feed guide on the blaster to line the darts up with the flywheel cage.

Required to build the blaster are:

One of every printed part except:

  • Battery Cap & Tray; you may use the stock adapter from the original Gryphon or run it tethered. The default orientation will print them to the Left of the blaster, mirror both to put on the Right if you prefer.

  • Flash hider & Flash hider comp: you may print either or neither, they're optional.

  • 40mm, 41mm, & 43.5mm FWC/cover parts: Print matching cage and cover for your desired performance. 43.5mm will yield ~100-140 FPS depending on wheel choice; 41mm with daybreak wheels will yeild ~150 FPS, 40mm is for people who know what they're doing.

You'll need the following hardware:

  • 2x Motors w/motor screws (m2x4-5 IIRC)

  • 1 pair Flywheels; aformentioned daybreaks or your choice

  • 16 or 18ga stranded primary/hookup/hobby grade wire

  • A battery connector of your choosing (xt60 or better recommended) to match your battery. The battery tray is designed to fit a Turnigy Nano-tech 1300 mAh 3s or smaller Lipo pack.

  • A microswitch

All the electronics/drivetrain parts should be available from OutOfDarts.

  • ~30x #4x1/2" screws (~m2.5x12, m2.6x12), maybe a couple 3/4" and/or two screws cut down a hair

  • a piece of elastic to run through the trigger and into the mag release for a return spring.

  • Lubricant for the trigger gear & rack as required.

Assembly:

Run black wire to the common and NO tabs of the switch. Dry fit position of wire such that it will run up grip. Install switch trigger & switch, verify correct function.

Thread elastic through hole on trigger & through grip hole, tie off. Install trigger. Position gear, use a piece of filament as the axle. Check that trigger operates gear smoothly, lubricate/sand/file as required; once working cleanly add cover plate and grip plates. Add magwell joint to front of grip assembly.

Attach magwell to grip assembly, thread elastic from grip through mag release; install & tie off. Test tension & retie as required. Check fit of mag in magwell, file/sand as required.

Thread one black wire from switch through mech cover with one loose red wire. Run remaining black wire out back of blaster. Install mech cover. Drop pusher into place, verify correct operation, install remaining side & top mech covers.

  • Install motors into flywheel cage, ensure tight motor screw connection. It may be required to bore out the spindle hole slightly to ensure a good fit.

  • Wire up motors & check proper operation with a single cell (AA, C, D, 9v, etc) battery. Install flywheels making sure they are not touching any part of the cage, test again with a single battery. If the wheels do not spin freely immediately stop and pull the wheels up to loosen. If reversed, mark the ends appropriately and install XT60 in that direction.

  • Install cage to front of blaster with covers. Add wire chase. Add top pic rail.

  • Optionally, install battery tray - battery will be semi-built in to the blaster (it can be removed by removing the screws holding the tray). Add the cap onto the back of the tray and screw down.

You're done! Load a mag, drop some darts through the top, and let 'em rip!

not recommended for users under the age of 14; always wear eye protection while nerfing, do not aim at people or animals, I'm not responsible for you doing something stupid in your home with your tools and materials using my file or instruction, these instructions are provided 'as-is' without warranty of any kind

Special thanks to Captain-Slug for ordering the first unit from me and to Flygonial for the Gryphon design which was the basis of this blaster. There were many tweaks but it is still ultimately his design (licensed CC0 at time of this writing).
