Numball Puzzle

https://photos.app.goo.gl/HoU5AN6xry5eMsRG6

Introducing a Numball - a 3d printed, number puzzle ball. Thank you Devin Montes (#makeanything) for your inspiration on your parts to make this:)! This game is a cross between Rubik's cube and a mechanical Simon Says memory game. Easy to play, easy to fix if you're mixed up..lol.

Non-printed parts needed to assemble:

48 - 6x3mm Neodymium Magnets

1 - 11mm Ball Bearing

DESCRIPTION

Numball is a ball that is comprised of 8 almost identical pieces that only differ by the number appearing on the face. When assembled, 1/2 of the ball has the numbers 1,2,3,4 in a counter-clockwise direction, while the other 1/2 has 5,6,7,8 in the same direction. The ball bearing should be placed in the recessed center area to assist in rotation of the spherical pieces. The 1 and 5 numbers should be aligned in assembly.

HOW TO PLAY:

Ideally 2+ can play, but you can play by yourself.

GAME 1 - NUMEMBER - 2 PLAYERS - With the ball assembled and in correct number order, Player 1 twists the ball 1/4 turn in any direction along any split. Player 2 must reverse that move back to the original position with only the same move(s) (corresponding 1,2,3,4 to half, 5,6,7,8 bottom half position). Once back, then player 2 twist the ball 2 times while player 1 has to return the ball bact to the original position also. Then player 1 does 3 moves, so on and so on. The first to not be able to return to original position after the same about of moves executed loses...i.e. mechanical Simon

GAME 2 - QUICKBALL - 1, 2+ PLAYER - disassemble the ball into the eight pieces, then mix them up. Then with a timer, How fast can you reassemble the ball to ORIGINAL POSITION - (corresponding 1,2,3,4 to half, 5,6,7,8 bottom half position)? Quickest to date is 7 sec! Because of the magnet build, it can be assembled quickly. Have at it!

GAME 3 - NUMBER TWIST - 1 PLAYER - Just like a Rubik's Cube, Twist the ball about 5-6 times without looking, then twist it back into the original position. Seems easy but takes some thought because the original position also has to be in original orientation...harder than it looks.

PRINTING CONSIDERATIONS

Each 3D printed piece can be printed without any supports. Please consider a medium setting at least when printing to hold tolerances in the model. Pictures indicate a vertical shell loop count of 3, no infill, 6 bottom/Top layer build, at .15mm layer height.4 extrusion width. Pics shown built with a Craftbot.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

Although the magnets can be press-fit in, I suggest you dab a little adhesive or epoxy in the magnet recesses, just to insure some hold. REGARDING N/S MAGNET ORIENTATIOn...YOU MUST INSERT ONE MAGNET N FACING UP AND THE OTHER SOUTH FACING UP TO START, AND THEN EVERY OTHER MAGNET PLACEMENT MUST BE THE SAME FOR EACH SIDE, OR THIS WILL NOT WORK. It is a little tedious, but that is how it has to be done in order to work as described. I will build illustation if needed.

Happy Printing!!!!
