3D model description

1st things 1st:
If you are wondering what these adapters are for you are in the majority. Probably 90% of people do not know their household bathroom sink has a hollow channel via a double-walled shell that allows overflow water to travel into the sink's overflow hole and down into the drain. If your sink has an overflow hole, this hidden channel is there.

Now, onto why these adapters are the perfect solution for RV owners.

My wife really disliked the bathroom faucet in our Itasca Sunrise motorhome. It looked cheap. The spout was so short you couldn't wash your hands without banging your knuckles against the back of the sink and it had an ugly rubber stopper to plug the drain. When the stopper was removed there was just a dark hole with nothing to stop jewelry from falling into it.

She wanted a faucet like at home. One with a long spout and a stopper that pushed up or down with the push / pull rod. So we went to Home Depot and found this Glacier Bay Builders 4 in Centerset 2 Handle Low Arc Bathroom Faucet. She liked that it comes in four different finishes. I liked that it had drip-free ceramic disc cartridges that don't wear out.

Bonus: This faucet uses the same waterline connectors as our old faucet. No adapters needed.

While removing the old faucet and drain I realized RV sinks are just a thin plastic shell with no overflow hole in the sink. This meant the new faucet with overflow holes in the drain pipe would not work for a single-walled RV sink. I needed something to block water from leaking out of the drain pipe overflow holes when emptying the sink.

3D printer to the rescue!

I made a sleeve for the inside of the drain pipe that was long enough to bypass the overflow drain holes. I also made a spacer collar for the drain pipe underneath the sink. It takes up the gap needed to tighten the drain pipe threaded collar to the bottom of the sink.

Installation:
I needed to trim the four stopper guides to a narrower diameter so it would slide down inside the Sink Stopper Sleeve without hanging up. The nipper that came with my printer worked well for this. Before sliding the sleeve into the drain tube I covered the outside of the sleeve with Permatex 80632 Thread Sealant, a viscous water tight sealant to make it waterproof inside the drain tube. RTV Silicone gasket maker should work well, too. I used lots of plumber's putty around the brass stopper flange and inside and around the top of the Sink Stopper Collar that goes under the sink. Then I tightened the threaded collar under the sink until the drain assembly was good and secure to the sink. Next I installed the stopper and stopper rod controls. Afterwards I tested for leaks. Success! It works just like at home and looks much better, too.

Every time we take our motorhome out my wife comments on how much she likes her new faucet.
