3D model description

Hello everyone! In 1999 Hasbro Interactive released a light gun shooter game titled “Nerf Jr. Foam Blaster: Attack of the Kleptons”. Included with the game was a light gun that was similarly styled to the Nerf blasters that came out around the same time, sharing a partially green and purple coloring very reminiscent of the Supermaxx 750 that came out a few years prior. I enjoy the challenge of sticking blaster internals into places they were not designed to go, so when I came across this beautiful classic shell brimming with potential, it was an absolute no-brainer. I mean, it has “Foam Blaster” in its name! It had to be done.

My two goals for this blaster were to 1: shoot a dart a comparable distance to a stock Nerf blaster, and to 2: alter the outer shell of the blaster as little as possible, preferably not at all. I’m happy to say that I achieved both of the goals, only having to add a single visible screw to the plug to hold the pull cord.

To prime this blaster you pull on the cord that comes out of the bottom of the handle. Then, you load a micro dart into the barrel at the front, aim, and pull the trigger to fire. Simple, classic, and effective.

This blaster was entirely made possible by 3D printing, as you can see. However, as a word of caution to anyone who wants to recreate this mod, this is not a drop in kit, and it will take some finessing and trial and error to complete. I will not be making a write-up on how I made this blaster, but instead, I took several pictures of the inside of the shell to illustrate what portions of the shell need to be removed to make space for the 3D printed parts, as well as show the layout of the internals.

In addition to the 3D printed parts, in order to complete this mod you need the following things:

--Nerf Jr. Foam Blaster light gun
--The plunger tube, plunger head, spring, and support rods from a X-Shot Dual (https://nerf.fandom.com/wiki/X-Shot_Dual)
--Two 0.5" Long, 0.210" OD, 0.174" ID compression springs (https://www.mcmaster.com/9657K631/)
--Some high strength fishing line
--A dremel (to clean up the inside of the shell)
--One toy screw/2-56 screw that is 0.5” long
--Whatever other generic tools you normally use (screwdriver, drill, pliers, etc.)

I really enjoyed working on this blaster, and I hope you enjoy seeing it!
