HO scale model of a train bogie

HO scale model of a train bogie Free 3D print model

Description

This is a highly-detailed model of a train bogie series 18-100, widely used in USSR/Russian/CIS freight wagons.

The height from rail level to the top of bogie is 9.5mm when using 10.7mm wheelsets (36" prototypical), e.g. from aliexpress. Sockets for wheelsets follow NEM 314 (Carriage Wheelset for Tip Bearings. This model does not contain wheelsets! I strongly advise using ready-made metal wheelsets for better rolling performance, but if you really want, you can 3D print the wheelsets too, the wheels can be found here, for example: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3117985

Center hole is for 2mm self-tapping screw or M2 metal screw, hole can be drilled out for larger screws.

You will need 2 prints of Bogie (print flat side down), one of each of Beam top (print upside up) and Beam bottom (print upside down). There is also an optional NEM 362 pocket for couplings, Coupler pocket (print upside down).

This is a model with tiny details and requires the finest resolution you can get from your printer. I used 0.12mm layer height, 0.08 will be even better.

I've used PLA on Ender 3 with stock 0.4 mm nozzle. After printing, I glued everything together with super glue, primed with primer-filler spray and painted with a brush.

I gave the resin model a try however I needed to scale it to 111% for the wheels to fit. It is great, Thanks.

huh, that's interesting. Can you share the dimensions of the wheels (length with/without pins, diameter)?

I am using Kadee #520 wheels. Axle tip to tip is 1.018" ( 25.8572 mm) as listed on Kadee's site. I measured 2..6 mm. I also measured outside of wheel to wheel of 19.9 mm. I went back to the original size prints and drilled a deeper hole and they are good. Next time I print another pair I will modify the mesh with deeper cones. I use blender which provides stl import/export.

Very interesting. I followed NEM314 standard which states maximum tip to tip distance of 24.0mm, so both 25.8572 and 25 are expected to not fit...

This is a very nice model. Printed using a Resin printer with great results.

Thank you! For resin printer I have another high-detail model, it's not on cgtrader though, but can be found on printables: https://www.printables.com/model/460452-train-bogie-model-18-100-h0-scale-hd-for-resin
