Originally created to reuse a dameged chassis of other Type-18M tanks, the "Hunchback" soon came to be used as a close range infantry support vehicle. They can help infantry advance by destroying intervening terrain features while also giving them rapid support if they come across something they can't handle.
However, based on the results of combat use, the Type-18M2A "Hunchback" began to be produced in small series.
