3D model description

Based off of the Colt/Browning MG40 (which was derived from the Browning M1919), Britain redesigned this weapon to fire the .303 standard round. Although similar in appearance to an M1919A4, the MG40/.303 Mk II was drastically altered by thinning down the entire weapon and altering the bolt by cutting holes, decreasing weight and thusly vastly increasing the firing rate. Despite its wide use in World War 2, there are few drawings or technical notes available online.

Pictures depict several versions with slight modifications, as this weapon was modified to fit fighters, bombers, tanks, jeeps and other vehicles. As such, I have tried to design this model to be outwardly accurate to the best of my ability. In order to have some functionality and movement, I redesigned the bolt so that it can use the 1/2 inch copper pipe from the barrel to slide back and forth.

In order to build this model, you will need a 1/2" copper pipe, sized to North American standards, small brass tubes and rods. Post processing will be necessary. This is not one of those print and put together weapons, as tolerances are tight. You will need sandpaper, glue, files, drills and other tools to build an eye catching replica. Paint with a gun metal coloured paint, and use a silver antiquing wax medium to give some edges some light wear to get a more realistic appearance.

This model was segmented to fit a print bed of X220mm x Y220mm x Z200mm so it should fit most printers. Assembled, this model is about 1079mm long.

Added a display base with supports that has been segmented for printing. Included is additional supports with screw holes so that you can screw the supports into a wooden plaque.

Attention: This model comes in several pieces and is not a solid model. It will have to be put together. Parts may not fit every printer manufactured. If some parts are too large to fit on your printer, you can subdivide them via free programs such as meshmixer or MS 3D Builder.
