3D model description

I printed out Neoprenox's coin sorter. Tried it out and was disappointed.

1) I had several snaps break on assembly.

2) Felt cheap due to the thin walls flexing.

3) and the most annoying part was it just plain jammed up on dimes.

I really liked the concept so I just remodel the whole thing to fix my issues.

Now uses M3 screws to hold it together. Exact list below.

Increased the wall thickness.

Did a significant reshape of the pick rotor and tightened up some of the tolerances.

I did re-use the gears from the original. You will need to go there to get them.

1/30/22 update: now included in file list.

I'm pretty happy with the results.

For full disclosure there are 2 minor issues.

1) pennies, specifically corroded/dirty pennies, tend to stick in the separator track and don't roll down.

2) The last coin stays in the hopper. Does not happen all the time when it does, crank backwards until sorted.

I did test it with dollar and half dollar coins. They just stay in the hopper. NO PLANS TO SUPPORT THEM.

Nov. 22, 2021 Update: The obvious accessory for a coin sorter are Manual Roll Crimp Dies. I took inspiration from toastnips' thing and shotgun shell roll crimp dies and made my own. Then added storage to the base for the dies. The roll of pennies in the picture was crimped with the die.

FYI The US patient (6374573) on the dies is expired, Oct 2020.

May 18 2022 Added a new version of the crank. I had mine break overloading the hopper. The break location was at the transition from the shaft to the crank arm. The new crank places the layer lines on a slight angle to re-enforce the break location. It does need build plate support.

Hardware List

M3x8 with flanged head or you will need a washer for the pinon gear

M3x20 for the rotor shaft. Flanged nut or you will need a washer.

M3x30 for the handle, Standard M3 nut here and a washer at the screw head.

1/30/22 update: With the Short handle, use M3x20.

M3x16 for the top screw on the hopper. Standard M3 nut.

The remainder are M3x10 with standard nuts.

Print Notes

They should be pretty self-explanatory

The Separator track does need support. Use "From Build Plate Only."

I used 4 walls, 3 bottom layers, 4 top layers, 30% Cubic infill, Acrwelder and Ironing.
