Could we design a box that is beautiful and intriguing top to bottom? We got the idea from a graphic that we saw on pixabay. We decided to take a programmatic approach to re-create the pixabay design that would wrap around the entire box.

For this design to work as we hoped, all sides on the top and bottom pieces had to line up correctly. If you look at the box up close you will see concentric squares. If you step back a bit, the squares disappear and the diamonds become visible. You get the same effect if you change your viewing angle. We like just walking by the box looking at the design and watching it change before our eyes! We think this box is something special. The model is now part of Eleni’s Decorative Cover Box Collection.

Keep in mind that the bigger the box, the thicker and stronger it will be. All of our box designs are test printed to make sure the cover fits correctly on the box.

Materials used to create model in photos:

Sain Smart Matte Black PLA
Black Acrylic Paint
Gold Metalic Acrylic Paint
caulking touch-up if necessary

Ideas:

This box can be scaled proportionally on all axes. It also can be scale only on the z-axis to create a taller box. The cover will work on a taller box without being scaled. You can increase the size of the cover if you like to create a more interesting box. The default size of the box cover and bottom is 100mm.

It is probably best to use a single color filament. Due to the design it will appear as if you used multiple colors in your print.

This could be a challenging model to print. If your printer has any issues with your print, you can do any needed touch up. You can also use a tiny scissor if you need to do any minor trimming.
