Description

This is a standoff for bicycle bottle cages. I needed it for my Vitus Mythique 2023 bike due to its peculiar cable routing. It is designed around my bike, but should be compatible with all bikes and standard bottle cage mounts. This standoff adds 7mm of height and should weight around 5-6 grams.

Printing

This part was designed to be printed at 0.28mm layer height. It doesn't need to be pretty, but it's nice to print it faster.

Infill doesn't matter much, but make sure to have 6 perimeters with 0.4mm nozzle or 4 perimeters with 0.6mm nozzle.

Both PLA and PETG filaments are fine. If printing with PLA, don't leave your bike with this standoff in high heat. Other rigid filaments should be good too.

Small overextrusions on top and bottom layers will result in uneven surface. Once printed, sand these surfaces to prevent bottle cage from rocking.

Installation

Regular bottle cage mounting bolts are M5 12. When you add 7mm more they won't be able to screw into your frame anymore. Make sure to use longer bolts. I used M5 20.

Before screwing the bolts in, lube them slightly to prevent ceasing.

Align standoff holes with bottle cage holes. Smaller diameter holes on the standoff should face bottle cage, larger standoff holes should face bike frame. Next, insert bolts. Then attach everything to the frame and secure it.

DO NOT overtighten the bolts! Especially when screwing into an aluminium frame. Overtightened steel bolts will not only damage the standoff and, possibly the bottle cage, but they will cut into aluminium like knife cuts into butter. A ruined frame is a very expensive mistake.
