Description

One of the most exciting hikes in the Northeastern US is in the Presidential range of New Hampshire's White Mountains. Following the Appalachian trail, this trail climbs over half dozen mountains named after presidents, beginning in Crawford Notch, and gets above treeline for the majority of the hike. The trail climbs past the summits of Mount Washington, the tallest in the Northeast. It ends near Mount Madison on the northern end of the range, and descends down off the Presidential plateau back into the trees to the valley below.

I used USGS Public domain 10m DEM and reprojected and exported at 1:100K scale and 1.5x vertical exaggeration. Printed with a dual extrusion filament to highlight the hillshade this model looks great in dual color or using elevation gradient colors (modified for bambu profile with color). I selected light green for the lower elevation deciduous trees, but when you get up in elevation above 3,000 feet you enter into a coniferous forest dominated by firs and spruce. I selected a darker green for this area. Finally treeline is reached and above that I sprinkled some white for snow. Please re-select whatever colors you may want.
