3D model description

This is the American BLU-3 (BLU-3B), a high-explosive (HE), vane drag, impact-fired, anti-personnel (AP), fragmentation submunition designed for use against unarmored vehicles and personnel which was used extensively during the Vietnam War.

The submunition body has a pebbled appearance, caused by the steel balls embedded in the body and the fuze is threaded into the base of the body.

The submunition stabilizer assembly is attached to the top of the submunition and consists of six spring-loaded drag vanes.

In the unarmed position, the drag vanes are secured to the sides of the submunition body by the safety strap, which is held in place by the spring tab.

The body of the BLU-3 is painted bright yellow and the end cap is anodized gold.

It contains 250 steel pellets/balls and is commonly known as the pineapple due to its appearance and yellow color.

In-flight, the spring-loaded fins extend, stabilizing the submunition and allowing it to disperse and explode on impact.
