Hi and welcome to what has got to be my most ambitious Vice/Vise up to date.
I have seen these swivel vices on more than one occasion and thought how useful it could be so I decided to have a go at designing and printing such a thing.
The tricky part was always going to be the sphere and how it was clamped to stop it from revolving and after a couple of prototypes we had a working model.
I have made some modifications to the Vice Part in such that I have done away with the end adapter on the screw drive, this now has a recess built in so to speak, and another modification is that the sliding arrangement now has the 5mm Tapped thread underneath the slider eliminating the need for a collar for the grub screw and aiding the print process as well as that component can now now be laid flat on it's back on the print bed, some very usefuls mod's I feel.
The Hardware needed is 1 x 5mm Grub screw to hold the screw drive in position, 2no 5mm x 25mm Allen bolts for the swivel base to secure the top in position, don't fully tighten these, there needs to be some slack for the swivel sphere to revolve until its clamped down with the 12mm 3D printed bolt.
To assemble the vice, slide the slider down the rails, ensure its facing the correct way and then glue the end cap onto the rails and let the glue dry, then screw in the screw drive and secure with the 5mm grub screw underneath the slider and tighten allowing the screw drive to turn freely in the recess. The Vice assemble then screws onto the sphere thread and tighten.
There you have it, a very useful swivel vice.
Thanks for Looking.
