Description

Need a helping hand? Whether you need a unique phone stand, key holder, display holder, or just some decoration, this voronoi helping hand is just for you!

Carefully designed and positioned for multiple uses, this hand can be used however you choose. While it may be a tricky print, it is surely worthwhile.

Print Files:

  • Use the ‘SmallTolerance…’ file if your printer tends to have poorer tolerance for fitting objects together
  • Use the ‘StandardTolerance…’ for a standard tolerance print. Pieces should fit together snugly.
  • Print the arm (the only arm file as of writing)

Print Settings:

  • 0.12mm layer height (0.1 should also work)
  • 25-60% infill (doesn't matter too much)
  • 0.2mm initial layer height (anything over 0.12mm)
  • Support optional for fingertips on handpiece (I didn't need supports, but you might)
  • Any speed that works for your printer. Standard speed for my P1S
  • Feel free to use multi-color printing if you have an AMS or something similar to achieve the right-sided look on the rendered cover image.
  • Use PETG or something strong, like PLA+ (metal, anyone?). If you plan to only use it for decoration, anything works.

Post Printing:

  • Remove any supports or sagging parts with flush cutters
  • Use a heat gun (or tool of choice) to remove any stringing
  • If you printed both the arm and the hand, they should fit together with the peg. If it doesn't fit, file it down a bit until it does.
  • Optional: Attach base (wood or 3D printed) to connect arm to a wider surface. Hot glue works for my preferred uses of the arm, as the keychains and cali cube pictures show. If you'd like me to make a 3D printable base, I can.

Uses:

  • Phone stand: Attach arm and base and put phone behind thumb and pinky fingers
  • Key/keychain holder: Attach arm (base optional) and mount on surface of choice. Hot glue worked fine for me
  • Decoration: (Arm+base optional) Just put the hand/arm/base of choice on a surface, and there you go! A cool, lifelike decoration!
  • Object holder: Mount same as key/keychain holder
  • Any other ideas? Submit a make or a comment to share them with the community!

Let me know in the comments if you want to use this commercially, and we can discuss.

Please post some makes if you were successful printing!

Have fun with your Helping Hand!

It is small so if you need it larger like a real hand then in large it, also the hand itself is fragile but it did print just fine.
