3D model description

This is the German M39 (Model 1939), a High-Explosive (HE), egg-shaped, offensive hand grenade (Eierhandgranate) which appeared at the beginning of 1939, as a complement to the other grenades that were either too heavy (Kugelhandgranate) or too cumbersome (Stielhandgranate) for the assault sections.

The grenade used the same B.Z.E 39 fuze assembly as the Model 43 Stick Grenade (Stielhandgranate) which was screwed into the top of the sheet-metal body.

To activate, the dome-shaped cap was unscrewed and pulled with a coiled pull cord that was pulled before throwing.

The color of the cap indicated the burning time of the type of fuze fitted.

A red cap indicated a 1-second delay, blue 4.5 seconds, yellow 7.5 seconds, and grey 10 seconds.

It could also be used in place of the bottom side screw cap on the stick grenades.

If it were to be used as a fixed booby-trap then an instantaneous or 1-second fuze would be fitted.
