Circular Cutter

Purpose

Cut circular discs and washers.

Function

Can cut paper, cardboard, adhesive tape, film, soft metal film, etc.

2 to 150mm diameter full size cutting, the cutting thickness depend on the material properties, with hard materials less than 0.5 mm and foam sheet less than 3 mm.

Materials Required

1. Knife blade：9mm Snap-off blades
2. Screws：Ultra Low Head Screw M3X20 3pcs；Cap Screw M3X16 2pcs，M3X20 1pc；Nut M3 6pcs
3. Spring：Press type ballpoint pen spring 1pc（OD4.3，wire diameter 0.4 height18 ），cut the spring to 4-5mm.
4. PVC film：Thickness less than 0.6mm.
5. Foam sheet：Thickness 2mm
6. Double sided tape：Approximately 10mm wide.
7. Quick drying glue.

3D Printing Parts

The dimensions of some parts have tolerance requirements. For ease of assembly, please use PLA filament with small thermal deformation.

The main parts are multi-color printed, but AMS is not required.

Tools

1. Screwdriver: corresponding to the screw used.
2. Plier：Use two pliers to break the knife blade.

Assembly

1.  The assembly is shown in the below figure：

2.  Cutter Assembly：

a.  Assemble knife blade with fixture，the blade is fixed in the hole of the blade holder with quick drying adhesive. 

     The amount of glue used is small, be careful not to spill the glue onto the fixture.

     Carefully remove the blade holder to avoid cutting your fingers.

b.  Assemble the screw with fixture to ensure that the axis of the screw is not skewed.

3.  Turn Table Assembly

4.  Base Assembly：

     a. Hand cut PVC film and foam sheet with a diameter of 163mm max.

     b. Stick double-sided adhesive tape at intervals on the base plate, paste PVC film on base plate concentric and flat.

     c. Paste foam sheet on PVC film concentric and flat.

     d. Set the turn table cutter at a radius of 76mm.

     e. Adjust the depth of the knife blade multiple times to cut PVC film and foam sheet, remove the cut edge material. 

Prepare Knife Blade

Use a 9mm Snap-off blade and break it from the prefabricated groove.

If there is a deviation in the size of your knife blade and it cannot be assembly, please modify the hole size of the blade holder yourself.

About Cutting Depth

Due to the thickness and shape of the blade, there may be interference on the arc during cutting, the deeper the cutting the greater the interference. this situation becomes worse when the material properties are different or the thickness increases.

So you need to try different cutting methods for materials to get good cutting quality.

Usage

The circular cutter can be placed on the desktop or held by hand for use.

Steps:

1. Fix the material to be cut onto the foam sheet of base plate with adhesive tape.
2. Retract the knife blade of the turn table.
3. Set the size you need to cut.
4. The turn table is fastened to the base plate.
5. Try adjusting the knife blade to just cut through the material.
6. Rotate the turn table at least once in the direction of the arrows (CW only).
