Description

This 3D printed nesting box is tailored for robins, aiming to offer a secure and inviting space for them to nest. Featuring a modular design, it consists of two primary components: the main body, which includes the bottom and walls, and a detachable roof. The roof attaches to the body with M4 screws, facilitated by threaded inserts embedded in the body for a robust connection. Additionally, the nesting box is designed with two mounting holes, allowing for easy installation onto a wall or tree.

Parts List

- Body (Bottom and Walls): 1 piece
- Roof: 1 piece
- Threaded Inserts: 4 pieces (for insertion into the body)
- M4 Screws: 4 pieces (for securing the roof to the body)
- Wall Mounting Screws: 2 pieces (for attaching the nesting box to a support)

Assembly Instructions

1. Print the Parts: Begin by 3D printing the body and roof components. Opt for a weather-resistant material to ensure the nesting box stands the test of time.

2. Insert Threaded Inserts: Position the threaded inserts into the pre-designed holes on the top side of the body. Use a soldering iron to gently heat the inserts, making them easier to insert and ensuring a tight fit.

3. Align Roof and Body: Place the roof over the body, making sure the holes for the M4 screws align with the threaded inserts.

4. Choose a Location: Find a suitable spot for the nesting box. It should be away from direct sunlight and potential predators for optimal safety and comfort of the robins.

5. Mount the Nesting Box: Utilize the wall mounting screws to secure the nesting box to your chosen location. Make sure it's firmly in place before expecting any avian guests.

6. Secure the Roof: Insert the M4 screws through the holes in the roof and into the threaded inserts in the body. Tighten the screws until the roof is firmly attached. Be cautious not to overtighten and risk damaging the threads.

This DIY project not only contributes to wildlife conservation by providing a safe haven for robins but also offers a rewarding experience as you watch these charming birds make use of your creation.
