Description

Pike's Peak is the highest mountain of the southern front range of the Colorado Rockies. At 14,115 ft this ‘14er’ towers above Colorado Springs.

This map was made as a request by Bradyprints, for his experience hiking up the mountain from Manitou. He said they would take the much tougher “manitou incline” so I highlighted that trail as well as the popular 13-mile Barr Trail that ascend about 7,800 up the eastern face. The trail breaks above treeline at about 12,000 feet, with the last 2,000 feet on bare rock and often snow.

This model uses USGS 3DEP LiDAR and is provided for public domain use at 1m raster resolution. From this I used a UTM projection and generated this model at 1:63,360 scale, so if you do not change the size at all, 1 inch = 1 mile. I generated this with no vertical exaggeration to maintain the slopes and scales that one might find if actually hiking.

For the Barr Trail and the Manitou incline polyline I extracted the route data from Open Street Maps. Notably absent are the auto road and the cog railway. I wanted to maintain the pristine nature and highlight the difficulty of this

The colorized version available for Bambu printers is done in 4-color, with a black for the trail, and then switches by elevation at treeline from green to light brown for rock. Then for the last bit of the peak I have it covered in a dusting of snow and switched to white. If you want to add more depth feel free to use gradient filaments that will change color with elevation, or in my case I used about 6 different colors. A darker green for low in the valley, and two shades of brown approaching treeline.

For non-Bambu users I have uploaded the RAW file. Please print in whatever filament swaps you want and then the trail is raised you can color with acrylic marker.
