Description

PROBLEM

PTFE tubes on the A1 AMS Lite hub is difficult to remove. Per the Bambu wiki, one has to press down the locking ring with a tweezer in order to remove the PTFE tube. I find it too fiddly and I'm afraid that constantly doing so will eventually cause the gantry to sag and affect alignment.

SOLUTION

Design an ergonomic tool that will allow easy release of the tube without pressing the entire hub down using only one hand while allowing the other hand free to pull the PTFE tube.

FEATURES

PRINTING DIRECTIONS

  • Choose between the default profile (better print quality) or the vertically-oriented profile (recommended for smoother operation) which makes the layers on the thumb press perpendicular to the layers of the clamp part which allows for smoother sliding action.
  • Use rigid filaments such as regular PLA, PLA+, ASA, ABS, etc. DO NOT USE matte or silk PLA as these filaments are soft and do not provide strong layer adhesion.
  • Print as oriented.
  • Comes with built-in supports. No need to turn on supports.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

  1. If you find the tubes still very hard to pull out, try pressing the tube down slightly to allow the metal locking teeth to release before pulling the tube out.
  2. Make sure that you have the thumb press aligned in the corner and that it's pressing only one ring at a time. Otherwise, if it's hitting other rings, you might not be pressing the ring down enough.

HOW TO USE

IMPORTANT: Tool is not meant to be permanently attached to the printhead as it will prevent filament tangle detection to work. Remove the tool after use.

What issue exactly are you having? Like the tube ring not getting depressed? or still unable to pull the ptfe tube? If so, I suggest you try this: when you press down the locking rings, slightly press down the tube first. This is to have the tube slide out of the metal teeth, before you pull it esp. if the metal teeth have already dug deep into the tube. Hope that helps.

Great design and function, may smooth out the layer lines to enhance the notchy feel in petg.

Btw, how does PETG perform so far for the tool? Does it flex too much or just right for the tool to work?

The PETG works fine, its a cheap filament I get in bulk :)). No flex and it probably feels much the same as PLA, I've been using a lot more PETG on the Mini lately and enjoying the change. I was stressing out about my X-axis loads pressing down on it too and have been contemplating my options. I have a difficult hub for some reason, really have to yank on the PTFE to get it out no matter how much I compress the buttons, I have tried a lot of different designs and yours really comes close to perfect.

TOP :D Is good to see a good designer for 3d printing! But I have some suggestions for improvement. In the support structure listed of design a line (the thing works ok) I think is simpler make a solid and use slicer trickery to do the rest! :D Great model!

Vertically oriented thumb press part
I originally printed this on my A1 using the default profile in matte PLA. The thumb rest broke off on the first use. I then printed it using the vertical orientation profile and it works great. It feels much more durable with the thumb rest having much more contact with its base that slides into theclamp. I recommend using the vertical orientation as opposed to the default.

Thanks for the rating and feedback! Great to hear matte PLA worked coz matte, like silk, is notorious for having worse layer adhesion and weaker compared to regular PLA.
