Description

Bicycle Helmet Wall Mount Hook

Overview

Simple wall mount hook for a bicycle helmet. This specific model is made for a POC Tectal helmet, but most likely will fit many other helmets as well. The mount width is 40 mm, so measure your helmet before printing this. Mounts using double sided tape.

Printing

[TIP] - Print the mount in the same color as your wall, so the hook will blend in with the wall.

The included .3mf file is using STEP files, but a separate STL files are included, if you want to use those instead.

The rear slot and pull tab pieces are optional. If you have 2 mm thick and 20 mm wide tape as I did, you can follow the instructions normally. Otherwise you can leave them out or modify the files to your needs.

Print in the orientation shown in the image or just use the layout defined in the .3mf file. Default profile is using 0.20 mm layer height, 3 wall loops and 20% infill. You can most likely safely reduce the wall loops down to 2 and also reduce the infill. This will reduce the filament usage and make the part lighter, but then it won't be as strong. Play around with the settings a see what suits your needs best.

Other requirements

Strong double sided tape. I used some double sided tape from Tesa that is 2 mm thick.

Assembly

  1. [OPTIONAL] - Use sand paper on the back of the main body to make the surface a little more rough, so the tape adhesion is better. Use 150 grit or less. Make sure to wipe off the sand paper dust off of the part after you're done.
  2. Snap the rear slot peace into the main body.
  3. Apply double sided tape. Make sure sure to cut it long enough, so you can attach the pull tab.
  4. Cut a small incision to the tape backing above the pull tab and remove the backing above the pull tab. You don't want to adhere the pull tab to the wall.
  5. Install to the wall and enjoy!

Removal

If your double sided tape is the kind that stretches when you pull on it, you can use the pull tab to easily remove the hook from the wall (see image). This is great, if you're attaching this into a painted wall, so you don't have to worry about the paint coming off when the mount is removed.
