Description

Wanted a stand to hold Cinderwing Crystal dragons though it should hold anything that is ~50mm wide. There is at least one stand published by another, but I wanted to hold more than 5 which I think was the max of the other stand, and it was made for dragons smaller than 100%.

This stand will easily hold 8 full size (100%) dragons, and you can hold an additional 4 if you want to stack 2 deep on the cross members. I also print “medium” dragons which are 75%, and this will hold those as well, and you can stack those up in each slot.

Just keep in mind that the more you put on the stand, the more difficult it will be for somebody to see them all and pull one off to look at it.

The following picture is very busy.

I am only planning on using 8 large, or 4 large and 2 x Mediums on the corners.

I've included crossbars that can be put in front of each dragon for added stability, though they aren't necessarily required. See the picture below.

In the previous picture, notice the CAP at the top. More rods could be put in place above the hangers by leaving the cap off, but again, the taller it gets, the more unstable it might be. I only tested and plan to use 2 x rods and 1 x joiner so anything above that is up to you.

In the pictures, the bottom of the full-size dragon tails are just hitting the table top and mostly that's because at the end of printing one of the 2 rods, it fell over, so I lost about an inch. NOTE they are hollow, so you can make them as short or as long as you'd like.

I printed the rods with no infill and 99 walls, and they are very heavy and very stiff. Might work with infill and not 99 walls, but the weight and the stiffness help with stability. Depending on how you print these, you may have to adjust sizes up or down 1% for a very snug fit, but I printed them at 100% with PLA and they all fit snug, as expected.

I feel like I must have printed it wrong, the poles didn't fit well, not at all into the bottom base. I filled the hole with filament scraps and hot glue and then glued the rod onto that, the rod seems a tad too thick to fit.. might have just not printed properly so I'll try again. other than that, it seems VERY sturdy and looks like a really cool way to display my dragons! might even try to scale it down to fit baby dragons!

Hmm, did you use the provided profile? If the rod is printing thick for some reason, scale down the rod a percent or two. I've had a LOT of folks download it and report great fit, so I'm a little confuzzled. The upside is if you scale it down too much, you can wrap some electrical tape around the rod to snug it up.

Also, side note, I'm test printing a hanger (top part) that I designed tonight for smaller dragons right now. It's 31mm in between the supports, so hang tight, might be what you want for the smaller dragons you're after.

I used the secondary files that were listed instead of your original, I assumed it was just reorganized, not actually different.. I'm printing yours now to see if that solves it *fingers crossed*

I love this stand. The only issue I had, is it wobbles a little. I use the primary profile to print it in large. Didn't do any resizing.

When it isn't snug, use a single wrap of electrical tape around the end of the rod. On the few I've printed, they've been perfectly snug, but there is always a little variance, quarter of a mm in print difference on something with a longer vertical pole like that will extrapolate.

There is an opening in the top to either extend, or cap it. On the bottom, the opening is filled with support material that will pop out.

This is a picture of the bottom of the model in Bambu Slicer. Before and after slicing. In the picture of the bottom I can see the faint outline of a circle, so may be just full of support material. Can you confirm?

Can't post a link here but search Medium Crystal Dragon Display Stand or look under my name/models for a stand that holds up to 16 medium (80%) dragons.
