1/4" to Insta360 Mount - Assembled - 3d model
1/4" to Insta360 Mount - Printed part only. Note: the holes at the top have been tapped with an M5x0.8mm tap. - 3d model
1/4" to Insta360 Mount - Mounted on a tripod using the included mounting disc upside-down instead of a 1/4" bolt.

This also uses the M5 x 0.8mm bolt that came with the official mount, along with an M5 nut that I purchased separately. The official mount and stand have an M5 nut that is glued in, so the nut cannot be used without breaking the included stand. - 3d model
1/4" to Insta360 Mount - This is the tripod I attached my Ace Pro to, using this model. As you can see, it has a little plastic + rubber disc directly threaded onto the bolt. I removed this disc and turned it upside down to use it as a nut. This plate / disc / nut holds the printed model on the 1/4" bolt.

In my case, I also opted to add an M6 washer to the base of the bolt, underneath the printed model. I did this because the narrow ring of plastic surrounding the 1/4" bolt thread is a bit too narrow and cuts into the printed model a little. If you don't have so much thread exposed, or if you have a more substantial base for the model to be mounted on, you probably don't need a washer. I used M6, but naturally a 1/4" washer is probably more appropriate if you have one. - 3d model

This is a mount that allows for coupling between a 1/4" bolt (e.g. on a tripod) and the mount included with the Insta360 Ace Pro and other similar models.

Important Dimensions

Base hole: 1/4" (with normal clearance for 1/4" bolt) Top mount hole: M5 (undersized at 4mm, intended to be threaded with an M5 tap) Inner space for nut / tripod mounting plate: <~38mm diameter Base plate (with 1/4" hole): 5.5mm thick

Recommended hardware

  • M5 Bolt x 0.8mm pitch, >=20mm long (NOTE: The bolt included with the official mount is also M5 x 0.8mm and around the right length. See photos.)
  • M5 Nut
  • 1/4" Bolt for mounting (attached to tripod etc.), with at least 7mm of exposed thread
  • 1/4" Nut OR 1/4" Threaded Mounting plate (from the tripod etc.).
  • NOTE: 1/4" Mounting plate or nut should have a diameter of less than 38mm. Only tested with ~30mm plate, which worked well

Optional hardware

  • M6 or 1/4" washer, for the base of the 1/4" bolt to couple with this mount a bit more nicely, if you have enough spare 1/4" thread

Printing considerations

  • No support should be required, essentially all angles <45 degrees
  • Print with the base plate (with 1/4" hole) on the build plate / printing surface, or with the whole model at a slight angle for even better strength characteristics
  • Recommend PLA+ or stronger, the official mount design must be attached with fins that are around 3mm thick, which isn't much. A printed version naturally won't be as strong as the hard plastic mount that the camera comes with.
  • Recommend fairly dense infill. I used 70%. While I tried to keep walls thick, I also didn't want this being too large. A little additional infill goes a long way in making this stronger.
  • I wouldn't recommend this for "action" use. Don't go attaching it to a car or anything, or you'll end up with a cracked piece of plastic and a broken camera. Walls are around 4-5.5mm thick, and the fins are 3mm thick. If you want to risk it, try a stronger plastic like nylon.

As in the pictures, I have a couple of these very cheap tripods which only support typical 1/4" bolts that you often find on cameras, lights etc.. The Insta360 Ace Pro does not include a mounting option for these, for whatever reason. This design allows me to make use of those cheap tripods without purchasing any of the very expensive add-ons from Insta360, and without otherwise impacting upon my ability to use lens covers, cases etc.

I tried to leave enough clearance between the base plate and the arched area for you to insert whatever mounting disc / plate is on your tripod at an angle then rotate it to fit on top of the 1/4" bolt. Up to about a 38mm diameter disc / plate should be fine.

I don't intend to update this model any further, but feel free to remix this if it doesn't quite meet your requirements or expectations.
