DISCLAIMER: This design includes lighting units that use 220 Volts and 22 mA currents which can be deadly! If you don't have basic electric knowledge please, don't do this project!

Introduction

Hello Hello!

I've been designing Lumin for two months. My goal was to create an everyday product that can be unique and personalizable for everyone, requiring little to no effort to assemble and repair. A product that is open source so that everyone can contribute to it, making it grow and become something more than itself. It is essentially a tiny intervention that hopes to show the power of the community and the potential of distributed manufacturing.

It is a small project that helped me explore circular design strategies, which widened my vision for my Master's Degree project. But it's not finished yet. One of the critical parts of this project is to see everyone's contribution and ideas to improve and cherish this design.

Features

  • Lumin is infinitely stackable.
  • It only supports E14 and G9 lamp holder sockets. I wished to include more options but couldn't due to time constraints.
  • Snap-fit connections allow quick assembly and disassembly.
  • The rotating bodies let you customize Lumin's appearance or direct the light.

Materials

I used Transparent PLA (2 Walls, 0% infill) , for the diffuser and Matte PLA (3 Walls, 25% infill) for the rest. I used LED lightbulbs, which didn't deform PLA after prolonged use, but you can print with PETG or ABS to take precautions.

Assembly

Base: The base has 4 screw holes (either wood or metal screw would suffice); the inner two are for G9 lamp sockets, and the outer two are for E14 Lamp sockets. There is a horizontal hole to let your cable through before wiring the plug head.

Body & Diffuser:

  • To connect the diffuser and the body, align the cylindrical protrusions of the diffuser and the body's holes. Then, slide the diffuser until it is flush with the body.
  • To stack the bodies, align the diffusers of the top and bottom body and press. After hearing a satisfying click, the pieces are connected. To take them apart, do the same process in reverse and pull. DON'T TRY TO TAKE THE PIECES APART WITHOUT ALIGNING THEM.

Cap: Align the cap and the body and press just like the previous step.
