(モンキー・Ｄ・ルフィ Monkī Dī Rufi?), better known as "Straw Hat" Luffy (麦わらのルフィ Mugiwara no Rufi?), is the main protagonist of the manga and anime series One Piece. He is the captain and founder of the Straw Hat Pirates as well as one of the Four Emperors who rule the seas of the New World. [19] He ate a devil fruit called Gomu Gomu fruit, which turned him into a rubber man. His goal in life is to become the next Pirate King, find the legendary treasure known as the "One Piece", which belonged to former Pirate King Gol D. Roger, and conquer the New World by leading a crew made up of great pirates.

As the founder and captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, he is the first member to compose the crew, as well as one of its three main combatants. Luffy was one of the eleven rookie pirates known as the "the Eleven Supernovas" alongside his crew's swordsman Roronoa Zoro and, with that, one of the eleven pirates with a bounty in excess of Belly100,000,000.
