Description

Important! This is a remix version of Perfect Fit Bambu Lab/Bambulab AMS Feeder Button Cover Protector for the new revision of AMS feeding funnel. There are several reports that such AMS units arrived to users from 08.2023. Please check the thickness of AMS Funnel Buttons before printing the covers! If the thickness is more than 1mm (should be about 2mm thick) - then take this version. If it is about 1mm thick - then take the original here or here.

IMPORTANT! Pay attention to the thickness of PTFE tubes - unfortunately they are very different!

My model is designed for 4mm +/- 0.05 PTFE tube!

Bambu Lab X1 AMS Feeder Button Cover/Protector - what is that good for?

I have read some reports that the abrasive filaments "grind" the feeders from AMS (which are themselves from the plastic) very quickly! And this problem may affect the loading and unloading filaments !

I found an interesting feeder cap at Printables (thank you, Maverick Ng, for sharing your model!) and reconstructed it so that the cap sits very stable on the feeder and can still be easily pulled on and removed. Look at Installation-Video on my Instagram Channel - its very easy! :-)

With the 10mm long PTFE tube in it, the feeders are now well protected! For printing of really abrasive filaments - take better 30mm PTFE tube - then PTFE inserts are rubbed off more slowly, as short one.

Please read the print instructions carefully! They are important so that the small parts can be printed correctly and then sit and hold well on the feeder! If you have done everything right and the protectors should still fit too loosely - you are welcome to use the stiffer version - the jaws are 0.4mm thicker: https://makerworld.com/de/models/49677#profileId-51528

Print / Install Instructions:

  • place them with the logo on the build plate
  • first layer line width: 0,35 (0.4 mm Nozzle)
  • first layer speed: 10ms per second (for perfect look of the button-surface)
  • 2 perimeter, 4 top/bottom layer, 20% infill
  • take better PLA/ASA - they are stiffer, for better hold on the feeder
  • print layer height: 0.16mm and WALL generator: Classic (in this case please no Arachne) !!!
  • It is helpful to swith your Bambulab Printer from “Standard” Speed to “Quiet”!

Cool recomendation from User SHAYDED (Thank you! :-): “If you are struggling with sagging, move the parts closer to the aux fan, orient the overhang towards it, and crank it up to 70-100%”. I had no problems with sagging (just printed 4-5 of them at once and slow), but why not? :-)

Take a look for Video/Post about this model on my instagram channel: https://www.instagram.com/eds_3d_shop/

!!! Please take a look on this video, here you can see how you can easy get these protectors on the feeder properly!

https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cnb__BWr8Jv/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Short and cool description from User SpectreGadget : “Push forward with the back of the cap against the lever to snap it in place. Then line up an press firmly down to get over the existing inlet, until it snaps in place.”

looks great, works well so far. my only comment is that I used Bambu PLA Silk, when I was putting them on the part goes around the feeder already broke a bit. maybe thicker walls around that back might be better? The other comment I can offer, when the filament gets too low on the spool, it is quite a steep entry to the hole which lifts up the spool if the AMS lid is not closed. maybe shorter PTFE tube might be necessary. will experiment.

Thank you for great feedback! 🙏😍 My recommendation - take a look on my „stiffer design for new revision“ - there are the side parts thicker. And consider to print it with PETG - it helps in such cases! PTFE length is really variable - my best result is actually 18mm length. V.2 and V.3 have the „curved PTFE path“ - no jumping tools anymore 😍👍

Thank you for awesome make and feedback! 😍🙏 How I see on the picture, they maybe aren’t installed properly. This small round feeder button should be inside of the protector and should be not visible. Please try install them correctly - just take the spool out, press on the bottom part of the feeder so that top part of the feeder will move in spool direction and then hold so - now you can comfortably snap the front part of the protector over the feeder button (this ugly, round AMS Feeder „button“ ;-) and then press it over the feeder-funnel. Take a look at video in the description - it’s easier as it sounds 😅👍

got impatient while waiting on my petg to arrive and tried these in pla.. every one broke on installation. petg arrived today and i gave them another go in default settings and they came out beautifully, and fit snugly and perfectly

Thank you for great feedback and keeping trying! It’s very filigran design with (must be) tight tolerances, and filament properties are very important. I had no luck with PETG, but now I have some new cool Spools with PETG and will try them with this design. Thanks for Info and great rating! 😍👍

Temperature mightve been a factor, too. i printed the PLA the day before i tried installing and they were quite cool. the petg, i installed hot off the plate and they were very warm. i assume that might've made them a hair more pliable and so more amenable to a bit of flex at installation

These printed great, look great, and seem to significantly improve feeding issues I was experiencing with alternative designs. I printed 8 at once instead of 4 to have backups because I did find myself breaking one of them.
