The Dilophosaurus, 3D skull

Classification: Dilophosaurus belongs to the family Dilophosauridae and the order Saurischia, suborder Theropoda. It shares common features with other theropods, such as bipedalism, reduced forelimbs and sharp teeth.

Size and appearance: Dilophosaurus measured around 6 meters in length and weighed around 500 kilograms. It had a slight build and relatively long limbs compared with other theropods of the same era. Its bony ridges on the skull were probably used for display purposes rather than for combative functions.

Diet: Dilophosaurus is thought to have been a bipedal carnivore. Its sharp, curved teeth indicate that it probably fed on small animals, fish and perhaps even other small dinosaurs.

Habitat: Dilophosaurus fossils have been found in the southwestern United States, notably in Arizona and New Mexico. At the time it lived, this region was characterized by a semi-arid environment with rivers and lakes.

Behavior: Details on the behavior of Dilophosaurus are limited due to the lack of complete fossils. It is assumed that it was an agile hunter, using its speed and dentition to capture its prey.
