Description

This is an enclosure for Cocoon Create/Wanhao i3 Plus 3d printers. Mine is constructed from 6mm acrylic, but you could also use MDF or plywood. This enclosure has been designed to allow easy access to the power switch, while still enabling the entire build volume, and to take as little space as is possible.

These files have a couple of fixes compared to my original enclosure. The front box now sits inside the small tower bolts, and the rear box comes down hard on the top of the tower so there's clearance for larger filament spools.

The DXF file contains outlines for all panels, as well as 600x400 sheet borders. For cutting the acrylic it's recommended that you use a laser cutter (see your local fab-lab). If building out of ply/mdf, then you could simply print the DXF files and use them as templates. The design currently uses 4 sheets of 600x400 (that's what my fablab has available), but there's a fair bit of free space, so with care you could get away with less.

Update: Apparently the units are wrong in the STL. Scale up 10x (mm to cm) before printing. If I get some free time I'll upload updated STLs.

Update 2: This enclosure works with the reverse Z braces I developed. However, the design uploaded is 5mm lower than the version I made as it is designed to sit on top of the printer tower. To use the Z-braces as well, either cut the panels 5mm longer at the base, or use the riser brackets included with the Z-brace files.

The screw holes in this are 2.5mm diameter. If you use heavy gauge screws then it may be worth using heavy wall thickness, lots of infill, or drilling out the screw holes a bit to minimise the chance of breaking the plastic brackets.

I used 8g x 15mm screws and drilled out the holes to 3.3mm.

Bracket names are rather obscure

First character - front or rear enclosure

Second - back or front of that enclosure (as per front of printer)

Third - Top, middle of bottom brackets

Fourth - Left or right (as facing the printer)

Basically, print them all out and it should be obvious where they fit.
