This model is compatible with all Ikea BILLY bookcase variants and was tested with many 1kg and 250g spools.
I created this as a quick and easy way to store my filament and display it neatly in my workroom. If you already own an Ikea BILLY bookcase, this will be very cheap to build. This model uses the existing holes on the inside of the BILLY bookcase as mounting holes, you will not need to damage your bookcase to mount the shelves.
You will need some kind of pipe that is stable enough to hold up to 12kg of Filament and not bend.
I used 12mm diameter copper pipe, but I also provide models that fit other common pipe sizes (15mm, ½ inch, ¾ inch). Please download the correct one for you.
Personally I think polished copper looks the most pleasing, but you can also use steel or PVC pipe.
As the shelves use the existing holes on the inside of the BILLY bookcase, you can mount them at any height and as many as can fit in your BILLY variant. If you only want to use part of the bookcase for filament storage you can do so. I can get up to three filament shelves in my half-height BILLY bookcase, with some additional storage space in the bottom, or up to seven shelves in the full-size variant.
I printed mine in white PLA. The brackets are barely visible with the OXBERG Glass doors closed.
BOM (per shelf):
* (depending on which Billy variant you have. Cut the pipe 2mm shorter than the inner width of your Billy bookcase. For me that's 75.8cm. Try to get it as close as possible as a tight fits helps with strenght. The M3 screws don't fit tightly in the holes on the inside of the bookcase, which is intentional)
Please contact me if this model doesn't fit your BILLY variant or if you encounter any problems, so I can adjust the models.
