Description

Please share your make and let me know your opinion about this model. Thank you and have a great week !

Update 11.03.2024: Added “Skull" lid. There is an optional profile for printing this lid. @timon1201 did a similar lid and gave me this idea. thanks !

Update 29.12.2023: Added “Pine cone” lid. You can find it in the Optional Lids profile. The lid has fine details, please be sure your printing plate is clean (no finger grease etc.).

The Automatic Toothpick dispenser:

  • All parts are 3d printed, all in one plate. No AMS needed.
  • Several Lids to choose from and a clean lid to customize it as you wish. “Voronoi” and “Yoda” lid are found in the model profile. Other optional lids will be added to the “Optional Lids” profile.
  • Each part easily fit together. Please check the short building video bellow. ( 1min 30sec minutes to build )
  • works with toothpicks of max 66mm and approx. 2mm diameter (normal toothpicks I've found ). Please shake the dispenser to arrange the toothpicks correctly and parallel. Throw away toothpicks that look too different than normal ones: damaged, askew.
  • The two arms that hold the big parts together have printed on them L and R, to be sure you set them correctly (left and right).
  • The 3d printed spring should be inserted like in the video, first on the back with the other end up, then the front.
  • Second spring is optional (the left one). After some use, it will work smoother, as the parts needs some time to slide easier one on each other. From my experience, the right spring is enough, but feel free to play around.
  • If some of the toothpicks are thrown, it means some of them are a bit too thin. You can dispense them better by releasing the push pad slower. :)
  • If at some moment it stops from giving toothpicks, it can happen that the feeding zone is blocked by two toothpicks (usually because some toothpicks are smaller/bigger, damaged, askew etc). It's easily fixed by shaking a bit the whole model and/or press harder on the push part.
  • The parts are finely designed to work together, so I suppose it's important to have a good filament and calibrated. Please use my tested profile.
  • You can choose from two different lids (in the main profile, more lids in a separate profile - Optional Lids). The “Yoda” lid is a separate plate as it's using AMS and 2 colors.
You can print it without AMS and leave empty space in the lid where letters and Yoda is (don't print the letters and Yoda).
  • I've added another profile (For Thinner Toothpick - only base part) containing only the base part for cases where your toothpicks are often flying out of the dispenser. This is usually a problem related too thin toothpicks. This part is only the base part which should handle such toothpicks.
  • Based on the review of eric.joschko (thank you!!), he scaled everything to 108% and everything works perfect for he's toothpicks which i understood they are 68mm length.
  • Based on review of Sven_fretz (thank you!!): “scaled everything up to 125% and it works fine with my 80mm toothpicks.”
  • For better spring action and to be sure they keep their power better in time, you can print only the springs with PETG.

Thank you for your review and thank you for your observations regarding wall speed on that part. On my matte material I didn't notice it. I'm already looking into it. It seems that if I change the outer wall speed of base part should be fine and only increase the time to print by 1 minute. I will update the profile. Thank you very much again !

Done. Updated the profile to print the base with 100 and printed again. PS: looks great in Bambu Marble PLA. Thank you again for taking the time to point it out!

Hello it was a problem with the app, despide the fact that I printer the model successfully it did not register the successfull print profile and did not allow me to give more stars. not sure if it is best to remove the rating all together to avoid bringing the average down

Replying to @BelowAvgTico :
You probably should. The rating is to reflect the print itself - not issues with Bambu's app. It be more appropriate to just report your app issues to Bambu on their forum.

Lovely little machine! I made a reloadable lid that toothpicks can slide into, because I tend to push toothpicks even when I don't need them.

I'm not sure if I did it right since it was my first time, but I created a Profile. I'm not sure but white would be a nice color.

Printed from galaxy black pla (aurapol) and it's way too tight... Putting together was hard, but nothing cracked. Opening mechanism does not kick up automatically, but hopefully it will get better overtime when everything gets little worn out. I'd probably enlarge top cover by 1-2%, fits so tight its bit bent when put on :) Anyways great model!

hmm ... maybe you could lower a bit the filament flow. The lid should fit harder than the other parts but not bend. Usually, the mechanism works smoother after more use. Thank you for your review!

Yes, it already worn out after few (tens 😂) of empty clicks and words well... Jsut printing few more, added extra 1% to lid, will see how it works out. Anyways, always possible to use sanding paper on those bumps a bit...

Hmm, second prints were worse than first - 1% larger lid helped a lot, it holds, but does not take enormous force to put on. Wors were the side holders - even on first one, it was really hard to get them in... like needed to use soft hammer gently to get them all the way in. For second print, it was worse as I broke almost all on 4 prints I made :D had to drill and push them out :X Anways, 1% smaller and it fit just right! But then the springs I printed at 100% were hard to push in, but still doable :) Guess main difference will be filament, that galaxy black is rough on the surface, definitely not as smooth as other PLA... So recommendation for everyone to print these parts a wee bit smaller. Or @FlorinV , maybe you could adjust just the part of thouse side things with L/R on it, so you don't make the whole part smaller (then it's not exactly flush with the back, but not noticeable).

Please be sure you inserted the right / left parts that hold the toothpicks recipient in correct way. L -> Left and R -> Right. That could be a reason for this.

I printed off the handy app successfully. Putting it together was a bit too tight but manageable. Yet after I tried it, it sent a toothpick flying right next to my wife's face. Therefore, we don't feel safe using it

sorry to hear that! please don’t release the push button fast! Also you can try to print the other optional base, for thinner toothpicks. that seems to be the usual issue

The release button seems to get a little stuck sometimes, but most of the time, it works alright. I'll try to print the other base. Thanks a lot for your design and your feedback!
