Description

These are storage trays for different common batteries designed for the Gridfinity organization system by ZackFreedman

These were all made using the Gridfinity Rebuilt project. I increased the detail of the models beyond the default configuration so that the holes would come out more round.

The Raw Model Files include one STL for each combination of settings for each Gridfinity size listed below. Each STL file lists how many batteries they can hold in the filename. I have split the different battery sizes to different MakerWorld listings as it is extremely difficult to manage such a large number of files on here

If you would like another battery size or Gridfinity base size added, please let me know in the comments or a private message and I'll try to add it for you!

Battery types available (click on the size to go to that model page):

Gridfinity base sizes (all models are ‘half-height’):

  • 1x1
  • 1x2
  • 1x3
  • 2x2

Different settings for each size:

  • Magnet and screw holes on the bottom, with Gridfinity lip on top*
  • Magnet holes, with lip (this style is what is in my uploaded print profile)
  • No holes, with lip
  • Magnet and screw holes, without lip
  • Magnet holes, without lip (my personal preference!)
  • No holes, without lip

*-The ‘lip’ is the top part of Gridfinity that is used to allow stacking containers. Since putting batteries in these will block the ability to stack more Gridfinity on top anyways, I decided to also export each of the STLs without the lip as they save on filament and print time. They might look a bit out of place in a very organized Gridfinity (but does anyone really have a cohesive Gridfinity that's not ever-evolving?)

There are a few extra STLs (i.e. AAA 2x2) that are marked as [packed]. These hold more batteries, but in my opinion were not in line with the “readily and easily accessible” spirit of Gridfinity as the batteries are so close together they may be more of a hassle to remove. I left them in the pack for those who are looking for the most storage density.

This started with all of the battery sizes I use regularly enough to keep some on hand. I used it as a way to familiarize myself with the Gridfinity Rebuilt project and with the basics of OpenSCAD and then I went a bit overboard…

Print settings:

  • Nothing special, just your typical Gridfinity settings. Low infill (use whatever you need to get nice top surfaces), no supports needed. Keep an eye out for thin walls on some of the models, especially the [packed] ones!

Updates:

  • 06 Mar 2023 - Added 21700 bins by request
  • 08 Mar 2023 - Renamed files so GF unit dimensions make more sense (2x1x3 is now 1x2x3 and 3x1x3 is now 1x3x3)
  • 23 Aug 2023 - Added AAAA bins by request
  • 24 Aug 2023 - Replaced AAAA bins as holes were a bit too large. Added C and D trays by request. Only two tray sizes for C due to battery size. Only a 1x1 tray for D that can hold one battery just in case people want consistency, but there wasn't a way to fit more than one battery per 'bin' due to size so I didn't make the others.
  • 26 Sep 2023 - Copied over to MakerWorld. I'll try to make time to organize things better to adapt to how MW works and maybe even get a few print profiles in. Sorry it's such a mess to find a file!
  • 17 Dec 2023 - MakerWorld now allows folders, but organizing such a large number of files is extremely sluggish and unruly. I'm splitting out each battery type to its own listing, which should also make it easier to find and download only the trays you need.
  • 14 Jan 2024 - Added CR2 bins by request
