Description

If you are a fan of Oreo cookies, you will love this one.

This model is a huge version of the classic oreo cookie, but with a literal and figurative twist: you can decide how many layers of stuffing you want to have, from one to 11! The oreos are functional as a container, and twist open to reveal an inner compartment. You can also, of course, make multi-colored oreos, like the green-filled mint or yellow cookie “blond” oreos!

This model looks surprisingly realistic, and can work great even on printers without multi-color printing. The model comes with files for stuffing levels 1 through 11, as well as top and bottom parts. The cookie has a detailed pattern on both sides, just like the real thing.

Provided as an high resolution 3MF files, as well as in a pre-setup 3MF file for Bambu/OrcaSlicer users. I prefer OrcaSlicer as it gives you the best level of control and makes fine tuning easy.

Shown here in Prusament Galaxy Black (cookies) and Sunlu PLA+ (filling)

Printing Instructions:

Parts

Referring to this colored picture (double-stuffed shown):

You will need 1x of each of these to make a complete Oreo:

  • TopCookie (pink)
  • BottomCookie + BottomScrewInsert (blue)
  • Filling (yellow)
    • Pick filling size you want , from single to 11-stuffed.
    • Print in white for traditional, or other colors for special oreos.

Recommended Settings, Supports, and notes

  • Layer Height:
    • 0.2 mm layer height works fine for the top/bottom cookies.
    • The screw threads in the filling and blue insert require a little more care if you want excellent smooth results. I recommend:
      • Make sure you use a print order of inner/outer/infill, for good overhang performance. Use good cooling to get good overhangs.
      • Threads are ideally printed with 0.16 layer height and slower outer wall speeds (~80-100) optimize threads. I've had these work with 0.2 layer height too, but certain filaments might be problematic.
        • For the blue bottom insert, it's easiest to just print the whole object at 0.16 layer height with slower outer walls.
        • For the filling, especially for large ones, you may wish to print only the threads slower/at a fine layer height instead of the whole object this way. If so, you can use a combination of adaptive layer height and/or modifier objects to slow down the print in this area.

  • Supports/Orientation: Only the cookies themselves require supports. Orient the cookies with the logo away from the build plate. This will require a large flat support underneath. You can use a typical cylinder support modifier to only support an smaller flat area under the cookie for easier support removal. Alternatively, for the top cookie, I provide an optional polygonal support enforcer (dummy object) you can load into the slicer if you wish, which makes the resulting support easier to remove. White part shown in cross-section here:
  • For the bottom cookie, just support the whole inner circle with paint-on supports, as shown here:

Bambuslicer/orcaslicer users: I've setup 3MFs for you with settings that “just work” with PLA if you want to skip the trouble of manually configuring. Be sure to select whatever tuned filament profile you usually use.

Assembly Instructions

A small amount of glue is required to complete the model.

  • First, click the filling (yellow part above) into the top cookie (pink part above). I've designed in tolerances so that you will have to whack it a little (and it will stay in place), but it should seat without extreme force. If you wish, you can add in super-glue afterwards to make sure it never moves/doesn't have play.
  • Second, glue the blue screw insert into the bottom cookie, as shown in the two blue parts above. There are tolerances built in here for typical 3D FDM prints. The fit should be snug but easy enough to insert, assuming your printer is not wildly out of tune.

That's it. Once the glue is set, you should be able to just screw the parts together !

Love this print, made it for my daughter. Printed on X1C with preset profile, printed cream filling three separate times and had this banding issue each time. Tried another Oreo model and didnt have it. Not sure if this is a code/slice issue, but disappointing as the rest of this print is perfect.

This “banding” you have appears to be a seam , but I’m baffled as to why it’s so prominent.. I’m not able to reproduce this , but it may be filament or seam gap specific ? this is definitely a slicer settings tweak issue .

I’m not sure. it’s a brand new X1C. I didn’t get it on any of the black parts. I’ll try it again as I just cleaned the rods and greased everything. not sure what is causing it considering everyone else’s is perfect. new Bambi PLA Matte White. any thoughts?

I don’t think anything is wrong g with your printer , it’s probably slicer settings and wall order and such that needs adjustment .. although it’s a little strange that the defaults should be so “off”. I’ve inspected the model again and I’m certain there’s nothing wrong with the geometry itself .. so that’s puzzling . here’s what mine looks like . you could try randomizing the seam placement setting if you don’t want to see it aligned

fantastic print, super realistic look. would recommend smoothing down to 0.08 layer height for the last top radii to help get a smooth layer transition. also scarf seams on the filling if you’ve got Orca. 1 observation, would be neat if the print profiles had the number of fillings in them. mostly user error but I didn’t realize what each were for until I viewed it from a Desktop. I do love the side view cutaway of the cookies. IMO all mechanical/threaded or slip fit components should have a cutaway in the description. parts go together a little stiff at first but after messing with it a while, I think I prefer it this way in the long run. Overall fantastic print. Gonna go for a 10-tall next.

Love this one! I did the quadruple stuffed. I glued the threaded piece to the cookie portion so that you just unscrew the cookie to access the inside. One of my favorite prints!

I really wanted to like this print. I really thought highly of the fact that both sides were threaded compared to other models. However the bottom and the inserts print fine but for some reason the top does not seem to retain the cutout for the round part of the insert. Tried multiple time on textured and cold plate and all failed similar.

I'm confused considering the other satisfied printers here. Do you have a picture of your slicer setup you can include? I'm not really sure what's going on from your description here... it sounds like some weird setup that I can't visualize. Perhaps if you can show me a picture I can help? Both sides are NOT threaded in this model.. perhaps you're thinking of a different model ? That's the only sense I can make of what you're describing without a picture..
