Description

Filament holder with integrated mount for guides + interchangeable swivel guides, designed for the Ender 3S1 and Ender 3 S1 Pro top mount. This works great to guide the filament without needing a separate guide and you can choose the specific location of the guide in relation to the spool or pick and mix with the interchangeable options either provided or ones you develop.

There are a couple of filament spool holder designs in the wild and also many filament guides but this model combines these concepts together to make it easy to have the filament guide right where it needs to be.

This design keeps the top rail free and the filament far away from touching the mount or any other item which can impede the smooth flow of the filament to the extruder. You have a choice of attachments to add to the mount and can easily design your own.

Files: Everything was printed in PLA.

  1. The filament holder itself & integrated mounting system (print as shown in the picture)
    • 0.2 layer height, 50% infill & supports everywhere
    • Important: Use supports with support density at 5% (makes it easier to remove)
    • NB: You can use less infill density on the holder but I prefer more to be on the safe side
    • Important: This is the left hand side mount, mirror it in slicer for the right hand side.
  2. Elbow guide (a filament swivel guide with an elbow to move the guide further away from the spool)
    • 0.2mm layers, 24% infill no supports
  3. Straight guide (a filament swivel guide that brings the guide close to the spool so not ideal for me but can remix this part to your preference)
    • 0.2mm layers, 24% infill no supports
  4. A nut to secure either of the filament guides to the Filament holder mounting system
    • 0.2mm layers, 24% infill no supports

Note: You only need one of the guides but they print quick so you can print both and try them out if you prefer. My preference is the elbow guide. The guides have a hole that accepts 4mm OD Capricorn to make the filament path even smoother but you don't need this you can use without the Capricorn if you want.

Support removal:

Supports @ 5% density come off the filament holder quite easily except for the part where the spool sits which requires a bit more patience but as you can see in my pictures the print looks clean when done. (ensure you set the support density to 5% and not the model density at 5%)

This is a remix of bits and pieces from other designs (mainly Darkburrow) - Many thanks !
