Description

Okay this ones important. We have been seeing higher then normal m.2 ssd temps on the legion go due to its backplate design. This gentleman designed a new backplate and I can tell you I am seeing 15-20 degree cooler temps from the m.2. If you have a 3D printer. This one is a MUST!

Bonus: The fan whine has nearly gone away with this mod as well because of the change in hole placement on the back and the holes being larger for more air flow!

The kickstand version uses the original Legion Go hinges. Just take those off the original kickstand and put them on this printed one. Make sure not to overtighten when screwing the screws in. Just enough to where it is snug or you can snap off the screw points.

*All verisons with kickstand use the Lenovo hinges included on your unit.

*Print kickstand versions straight up and down. No supports are needed if oriented with the big circular hole towards the bottom closest to your build plate. Orient like the picture below without supports.

Different versions available:

1. Version 1 with hot swap m.2 on the back. m.2 ribbon cable required

Amazon.com: Sintech M.2 NVME Extender,NGFF M-Key PCIe SSD Extention Card with Anti-electromagnetic Foiled Cable 20CMS (Silver Cable) : Electronics

2. Version 1 with custom back and kickstand

3. Version 1 with no kickstand and raised back

4. Version 1 with no kickstand and no raised back

5. Version 2 with updated backplate(improved) and kickstand

6. Version 2 with updated backplate(improved) and kickstand along with the ability to add brass inserts. (You will need to heat up inserts and insert into the holes to melt them in place)

I bought the following brass inserts kit and used the M2*3*3.5 fittings from this kit. 7. Legion Go Backplate Brass Inserts V2-Skinny Backplate - This is a slimmed down version of the original backplate with a kickstand. Much more refined. It requires the brass inserts listed above.

8. Improved Legion go backplate with kickstand My most refined and final version of this custom backplate. This is the version that I will personally be using moving forward. You will need a couple of things here.

  1. Ali Express m.2 adapter. 1 Pack DIY Motherboard For Legion Go Hard Drive Modification Adapter 2242 To 2280 Hard Drive Adapter Board Accessories - AliExpress
  2. 2280 m.2 or any sized ssd

Brass Inserts Legion Go Backplate and kickstand-V2
Missing Model Parts:Tried the Brass Inserts Legion Go Backplate and kickstand-V2 and if you look at the picture on the right hand side the screw holes are not there. So as that version is now it is impossible to install it correctly.

Replying to @FSULAUBACH :
Still hasn't been fixed, sadly I spent the whole week fixing a 3D printer a friend brought over so I could print this and as soon as it finished finished he had to bounce with the printer. Sad.

prints really well with petg cf. easy to install. temperature of ssd finally fall below 60 degrees Celsius. most of the time hover around 54 to 55 degrees. on heavy load max at 59 to 60 degrees. compared to before I am getting 89 to 92 degrees. no more thermal throttle and sudden lag in certain heavy games where ssd speed drops due to heat. very good model. only downside is kick stand will not be able to sit completely flush. it will petrude out a little.

Man, this was a pain in the ass to print. But it was worth it. After almost a kg of filament (it's about the principle at that point) I got two good prints; essentially, I used the stock "Fine" quality print profile and set my Max Fan Speed Threshold Layer Time to 15s, and that did the trick. Printed in PLA+ at 0.12 LH. I decided to print some "screens" to cover the vents, and it worked out great. Thank you for your work on this model, I know it wasn't easy designing this.

Hi. Is there any possibilities to create the fan shroud part to be seperated so to be able to glue in later. As I am having hard times to print the fan shroud. It keeps breaking off or very weak. The rest of the printa are fine except the fan shroud thanks.

Great work, I saw your work on the Legion forum and Discord. I am a bit skeptical with PLA: it soften around 60°C, and with NVMe temps I would be scared that it would melt. I will try to print in ASA see how it goes :)

Printed the thin v2 version. Did not want to use PLA because of temp concerns. Was impossible with ASA but succeed with PETG after alot of attempts. As PETG is sticky, the print started to wobble with the movement of the nozzle. Had to use lift Z to let the print go back to its original position before printing the next level
