Description

A slip-On Cap to Help Slow Carbonation Loss on Aluminum Cans

No supports needed and infill doesn't matter. Can use on of the included profiles if you like. The estimated speed and filament used are listed there and they vary a bit by each version.

I strongly suggest printing this with TPU. The flexibility of TPU offers a better seal and improved usability. Printing with harder filaments is not recommended if you want a good functional can lid.

Why this print is useful

Or family has someone who frequently opens a can of carbonated water, drinks part of it, then puts it back in the fridge. A few hours later, when she returns to finish it, it is invariably completely flat.

Made this simple cap to help slow down the carbonation / fizz loss.

This fits many different aluminum cans (some samples posted here). Soda, carbonated water, beer and many energy drinks.

Another downloader mentioned an additional great use case that I hadn't considered: keeping insects out of people's drinks in an outdoor setting like a picnic. You've probably seen a picnic table full of open cans with bees, wasps or flies walking around on the top of the container and trying to get a little sip for themselves. This cover can keep that from happening.

Variations

Standard Fit

The “classic” fit. Not as airtight as the version below but the size is a compromise between easy usability on-off and airtightness. TPU seals better than harder plastics. My personal recommendation is to start with this one before trying the extra tight one to see which you prefer.

Available with and without a “hook hole” - a small hole in the “pull tab” to allow for hanging on a small hook for organization.

Extra Tight Fit (Snug)

Added a version that a bit tighter. If you use this version, you will almost definitely want to use TPU if you weren't already planning to. If you do use PLA or PETG you probably won't be able to get this on the can. Even with TPU, this version is a (little) bit more difficult to get onto the can then the standard fit. But it is more airtight and will seal better. Available with and without a hook hole.

Bambu 3MF Notes

I have individual plates / 3MF for all four variants as well as a “sampler” if you want to print all four and then see which one you like best.

For the “Sampler” see the last photo for the ‘legend’ or select View→Show Labels in Bambu Studio to see the labels for which is which on the “Sampler” plate.

I agree and I also prefer the higher fit. But it is just a little more fiddly to get on and so some people are OK to give up a little of the sealing for easier/quicker one handed operation. So...that's why I have both b/c choice is always good! Thanks for printing and consider posting a photo.

Standard Fit
had to scale slightly to get it a bit tighter, but otherwise works great with TPU.

Thanks for the review. For anyone reading this - if you want to start out with the tightest fit, use the "Extra Tight" profile. It is pre-scaled down for a tighter fit.

Try the Extra Tight version. It’s a 98% scale (x&y) version that fits more snugly.

make sure you are using TPU. and you might want to try the STANDARD fit as it’s not as snug. between here and Printables there have been hundreds of successful prints so it should be fine if you use TPU. but try the standard fit, you may have better results.
