Description

Summary

My take on a DD mod for the Sovol SV02 printer, reusing the standard extruders and steppers. This was originally based on a design that no longer seems to be on here by Daniel Garrett.

There are two versions. Both include BL Touch mounts, with the only difference being the height of the BL touch, one for the standard heater block and nozzle, one if you're replaced the heater block and nozzle with a Mk style block.

Print Settings

Printer:

Sovol SV02

Rafts:

Doesn't Matter

Supports:

Yes

Infill:

100%

Filament:

Any PLA(+) Any

Notes:

I used auto supports, 10% fill above 60%, but I use IdeaMaker and have solid base layers and infill outlines enabled so inherently IdeaMaker's supports are stronger. You might need to tinker with the settings. My supports just snapped off clean.

Post-Printing

Assembly

For the best result you will need to drill a small hole into the left front of the mounting plate to accommodate a screw / bolt and nut. Do this with the mount in place to use it as a template for the location of the hole.

Assembly can best be described as painful. Be sure to have a swear jar and lots of pennies handy. The order of assembly is important otherwise it is almost impossible to get together. This is the order I finally settled on after numerous attempts...

Before you begin, fully remove the hotend and ensure the fan is out of the way. You will need a longer cable for the left extruder stepper. Make sure you have this before starting because you cannot complete assembly without it.

Do these steps before putting the assembly onto the printer:

  1. Right extruder and stepper
  2. Left extruder and stepper

Extruder pneumatic fittings (both)

  1. Add the mount to the printer. It slides on from the right side and fixes in place using the BL touch mount holes.

Do these steps once the assembly is mounted:

  1. Take the opportunity to replace the bowden tubing in your heatbreak if you've not done so. Fully assemble the hotend, including the pneumatic fittings.
  2. Cut 2 extra sections of Bowden tube the same length as the piece in the heatbreak. You can use my PTFE Tube Cutting Guide (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5168647) to make it easier.
  3. Insert the two pieces of tube fully into the pneumatic connectors on the HOTEND, ensure they're inserted as far as they will go.
  4. Insert the other ends into the pneumatic connectors of the extruders and push the whole hotend assembly up until the pneumatic connectors touch, then fasten it with the two (long) screws.
  5. Insert the locking clips for the pneumatic connectors.
  6. Remount the fan shroud and run the cables.

Extras Required

6 or 8mm M3 / M4 screw and nut (optional but highly recommended)
Approx. 30cm stepper cable
2 x 6mm M3 screw (if you don't have a BL Touch)
2 x 12 / 15mm M3 screw and nut for BL Touch if using the Mk8 heater block version
