Description

Note: This is a modified gcode so use at your own risk! This is only tested on the P1P printer!

I'm sharing a small gcode which I created to make lead screw and spindle maintenance easier on the P1P.

This gcode is fairly simple and in my honest opinion not dangerous at all. But since it is a modified code I have to warn you.

You need to download the .zip file and import the .gcode on your microSD card. You can only start it from the printer.

If you feel unsafe using this code the first time, keep a finger on the power switch while its running.

What does this gcode do?

Without heating the nozzle or hotbed it starts homing all axes as usual. All extruder commands were removed.

Then it moves the hotbed up and down by 10mm, so the spindles turn once several times in both directions.

The bed moves rapidly and warns that it is going to move up or down soon.

You get about 2 minutes per cycle to clean the spindle (and apply new grease).

After 4 cycles the bed moves almost fully up and almost fully down and then in a center position.

How to use the gcode for cleaning the spindles?

Clean the lead-screw and spindle with a lint-free cloth within the 4 cycles.

When the bed is in the bottom position for a second time apply new grease on the spindles and let the hotbed move up.

(While the hotbed is moving you should also have enough time to apply new grease)

Use more grease than necessary and remove the unnecessary grease afterwards with a q-tip or lint-free cloth.

Recommendations:

  • Use a small grease gun as seen on the pictures to apply new grease. A brush would be the equivalent alternative.
  • Be aware to not directly touch the spindle with a grease gun since the tip is from metal. You can print the tip which I uploaded aswell.
  • Don't clean the spindles with IPA or any other alcohol. Clean them with a dry cloth. Else the spindles will have higher friction during movements since there wont be any grease on the surfaces. It also reduces risk of potential corrosion.
  • Use more grease than needed and remove residues afterwards.
  • Make sure your nozzle is clean when its homing. (Nozzle wont be heated during “print”)

I would appreciate if some professional users could check and test the gcode to confirm it is safe to use.

If you have any questions or improvements/adjustments feel free to leave a comment. :)
