2024-01-18: Increased the tolerances on the holes for the bearings by 0.2mm. Use a rubber mallet to fit all pieces together.
2024-01-13: By request on the BL Discord, I have added a low-height filament guide that pulls from the bottom instead the top.
This external spool holder puts your external spool directly to the left of your printer. I didn't like having it behind the printer, making it hard to access, and I don't like having things on top of my printer because of the vibrations. The included print profile has multiple plates with different options.
- Plate 1: 80mm
- Rollers and pins.
- These rollers will hold any spool up to 68mm wide.
- For BambuLab spools, which are 66mm wide.
- Uses standard 608 skateboard bearings.
- Base boot plate.
- Universal closed left side wall.
- Plate 2: 100mm
- Rollers and pins.
- These rollers will hold any spool up to 88mm wide.
- Base boot plate.
- Universal closed left side wall.
- Plate 3: 80mm Guides
- Filament guide.
- Push in a BambuLab PTFE Tube coupler from the back, black side forward.
- Make sure to line up the center cross with the gaps in the guide hole.
- Why do I use these instead of getting standard PC-M10 connectors?
Because BambuLab gives these couplers out like candy.
Your printer comes with 2, every AMS you buy comes with another.
So I have quite a few of these just lying around. You probably do too.
- Low Height Filament Guide
- Plate 4: 100mm Guides
- Filament guide.
- Low Height Filament Guide
- Plate 5: Open Walls
- Universal attachment brace
- The nature of open side wall is so that it can slide down into the brace which slots underneath your printer.
This keeps your spool holder directly attached to your printer and as stable as possible.
- Universal open right side wall with spool arm.
- The spool arm is there to stop the spool from getting pulled out of the holder when you reach the end.
- Universal open right side wall (no spool arm).
- If you prefer not to have the spool arm, such as if you use my Desiccant Holder, you can use this right wall.
- Plate 6: Closed Walls
- Universal closed right side wall with spool arm.
- Universal closed right side wall (no spool arm).
- If you don't want to attach your external spool holder to your printer, and instead just want it to be floating and movable at will, you can use these closed side walls to have it all look nicer.
All pieces in this model are friction fit, so you don't need to use any glue if you don't want to.
