Description

These are some simple desiccant holders that fit inside the spool cavity. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, so I made something myself. Here are the features I focused on:

  • Tool-less installation
  • Container grips and rotates with the spool
  • Container fits within existing spool dimensions
  • Cap marked with “C” so its clear which side needs to be unscrewed when desiccant beads need to be removed for drying
  • Container fill markers (25%, 50%, and 75%)*

*A partial fill allows the cup to act as a tumbler and mix the beads, so they all have an opportunity to absorb moisture roughly equally. With a full fill, the center beads may not provide much drying.

Instructions for use:

  1. Pass base cup through the underside of the spool
  2. Holding the underside of the spool and the inserted cup, fill with desiccant
  3. Insert cap from top and screw down
  4. Release supporting hand and use finger grips on either side to tighten

If tightened down properly, the container should grip the spool, allowing it to rotate with the spool and tumble the desiccant beads as it rotates in the AMS. The container is intended to live with the spool, so the spools can be loaded into the AMS or stored without removing the desiccant.

This item is great! I appreciate the fact there are two caps, one to hold in the desiccant and another to hold it in the spool.

Other Issues:I attempted to print this on a P1s via Bambu Handy on iOS. As you can see, the print started off ok but proceeded to poop all over itself. Based on observation, I believe the failure came at the point where the print began to create the cylinder. I only needed one desiccant holder and, in hindsight, probably should have chosen to print one of the models towards the center of the plate rather than the edge. I will try the print once more and see if I have better results.

I'm not sure which bed plate that is, but I have only printed these on the cool and hot plates. I use glue stick whenever I do full bed prints because I have experienced adhesion problems on the bed edges on many prints, so I would recommend trying that if you haven't.

I attempted to reprint this two more times, both times choosing only parts at the center of the bed. Only one of the subsequent two attempts was successful. Below are some photos of the second failure in case anyone is curious. For what it’s worth, I am using the default textured PEI plate that comes with the P1S.

Are you changing the printer in Bambu Studio to match your printer? The profiles were sliced with the 0.2mm standard profile for the X1C, I only changed the infill density and pattern. I wouldn't expect those to impact bed adhesion. I've sent prints to my X1C that were sliced for a different printer and had adhesion issues. The printer gave me a warning when it started the job, which I didn't initially realize meant it was sliced for the wrong machine.

Printed 4 at once in green PLA with default settings on X1C. They came out great and there’s just enough interference with the spool that it tumbles the desiccant pretty evenly. Great design.

simple and straightforward. functional and they seem to be effective (I didn't have a hygrometer to watch levels with and without, but it definitely isn't making things worse) thanks!

Printed perfectly in an assortment of colors of IIIDMAX PLA+ and Polymaker Polylite on my A1 mini. Great design, thanks for the upload. I don't use Bambu filament but these holders fit my spools of Polymaker and Inland ABS/ASA perfectly. IIIDMAX spools are too small diameter to fit but may work if you scale X/Y down a bit.
