Description

Don't touch your face. Don't touch your face. Don't touch your face. But sometimes you just gotta scratch. And when you do, scratch safe with this sanitary nose scratcher. The business end of this pendant stays safely isolated in its case underneath a retractable lid. Extend it with the thumb slide (the lid automatically lifts to the side) and you've got a gently rounded nub with some satisfying corners to scratch every itch. Once you sanitize it with some alcohol or Purell, you can safely scratch your face because nothing ever touches it -- except for your own face.

Great for checkers, clerks and stockers who constantly use their hands, interact with the public and can't safely scratch their face when an itch comes a calling. Keep in on a lanyard around your neck so it's always handy.

Please stay safe and sane in this time of the coronavirus.

ASSEMBLY

To assemble, you will need:

  1. A short length of 1.75mm dia. filament to act as a hinge pin for the lid.

  2. A small #10 size rubber band. (Or you can use any 1/16" width rubber band cut to length and knot.)

  3. A couple drops of superglue to glue on the end cap.

  4. String for a lanyard.

First, test fit your filament hinge pin in the hole in the body and in the hole in lid. Clean out the hole with a small drill bit (0.070" - 0.073") if necessary. Drill from the front to back of the body, but don't drill quite all the way through. The bottom of the hole is tapered so that the filament hinge pin can be wedged in place.

Next test fit the probe inside the body to make sure it slides up and down smoothly. Sand off and lumps or nits until everything is smooth. Also test assemble the lid and sand off any rough bits until the lid flips open without rubbing.

Now hook the rubber band over the top edge of the rib found on the bottom edge of the probe. Stretch the band so that each side lies in the grooves on either side of the rib. Insert the probe all the way into the body with the band coming out of the bottom, and then loop the end over the little hook at the bottom of the body.

At this point, the probe wants to come shooting out of the bottom. Hold it in place, though, while you insert the lever arm of the lid into the side slot at the top of the body. Line up the hole in lid with the hole in the body and insert the hinge pin. Press the pin firmly into place and cut off any excess length.

The scratcher should now be functional. Test it to make sure it slides freely, and that the rubber band has sufficient tension to keep the lid firmly closed. Next, insert the end cap and glue in place with a couple drops of superglue.

Finally, add your lanyard. Before using, and every so often as a precaution, sterilize the end of the probe with alcohol.
