Description

New Universal Spool v2 released! Click here!

Universal spool for using filament on cardboard spools or Refill Packs (like eSun Refill Filament) in the Bambu AMS. No rewinding necessary, simply transfer the cardboard or refill core to the universal spools.
Suitable for core diameters (inside) from 75 to 100mm.
With Jayo spools, it is a little tricky to remove the rather thick ring at the core. You need a sharp cutter and patience.

Check out my new video with a steb by step tutorial.

  1. Measure the width of the cardboard spool (inside between the reels).
  2. Carefully remove one side of the cardboard spool.
  3. Screw the corresponding core (50, 55 or 60mm width) onto a reel and insert it into the cardboard core.
  4. Then turn over and remove 2nd side of cardboard reel.
  5. If desired, then insert Silicatube (with silica gel or ballast).
  6. Then screw on second roll, done.

Now the filament can be used in the AMS without any problems.

I made 2 designs of the reels, design nr. 2 needs less printing time.

I use PLA (it is flexible enough for the core) with these settings:
3 walls
3 top and bottom layer
12% Gyroid Infill
0,16mm layerhigh (with variable layerhigh for the reels if you want)

22.11.2023

added the new v2 Cores (as Print Profile)

The number of spiral arms was reduced from 4 to 3, while the diameter was increased from 110 to 117 mm.
This means that the spools sit even better and less material is used, which also reduces the printing time slightly.

The v2 Core with 60mm was tested by me with various filament and is therefore compatible with the following cardboard spools:

  • Creality
  • eSun
  • GratKit
  • Kexcelled
  • Overture
  • Sunlu

Not yet tested, but should fit:

  • Eryone
  • Bambu Lab Refill

17.10.2023

  1. new rewind core.
With this new core it is now possible to rewind filament with my universal spool, e.g. from a cardboard spool or a 3kg spool.

02.10.2023

  1. added a "Core Jayo 85-55" especially for Jayo Spools. It's slightly smaller than the normal 100-55 Core.
  2. reworked the silica-top, the thread now runs more easily.
  3. updated the 3mf-File

worked great, hopefully I didn’t affect the winding when I transferred it over.

what bag sealer is that?

I got them off eBay - they were advertised for filament, so the size was good. I have seen some that are for food, that look the same, and are the same size.

55mm works perfectly for Inland brand refill spools.

Is a layer height of 0.2 not feasible at the threads with PLA? I used stock settings on an X1C and my threads came out quite rough. Surely supports are not expected here. This is Inland PLA tough.

I think you need to adjust some settings, maybe tune your filament. I haven't had issues with the male threads, but the female side got a bit stringing with some cheap elegoo black filament. Reducing layer height and speed did the trick in a pinch.

you should print a temp tower. generally too hot of a filament will make the overhangs in the thread droop down. for example my elegoo pla+ nozzle temp range is 200-240. the left is printed at 215c and the right is printed at 230c. also make sure you have 100% part cooling for the overhang settings. this is on my x1c.

This is a very good solution! The printing time incl. Silica Box is worth it. You get a very already with PLA very stable roll. It fits super in e.g. my eSun cardboard rolls. With adapters and the cardboard roll I could use this super though in the AMS. However, I could not then close the lid to 100%. That is now settled with this coil. Another advantage is: You can use it safely for rewinding or storing residual material.

Great Print. Best solution I came across so far for dealing with these annoying cardboard spools in the ams.
