Description

I created this model of the SpaceX Starship with a smoke and fire base that can be used either free standing, or as a tree topper during the holiday season.

It can be used free standing or as a tree topper both with or without the optional ‘Smoke and Fire’ base.

If you do opt to also print my Smoke and Fire base, it has a hook in it that allows you to easily fix either a string of LEDs or Christmas tree lights inside it giving it a fun and festive glow from inside the rockets fire.

There are various recesses of different sizes around the base allowing for lighting cables to be fed out when using it as a freestanding model, and it can perfectly sit over an LED Lamp from Bambu Labs.

[Update] I've uploaded a new version of the base with this light hook moved more to the side to make it much easier to slide the end of a christmas tree through whilst still being able to hook an LED on. All the 3MFs and STLs on this page have been updated with the new design (but I've kept the old designs in a separate marked folder should you still want them)

The project I've included features both parts but on separate plates so you can use that same project regardless of whether you want the base or not.

Print Settings

  • Layer Height: Any will do, but for speed, the project I've uploaded has been set to 0.2mm (which is what the one in the photographs was printed at, and it looks great).
  • Orientation: Print both parts upright as they will be when stood up.
  • Support: Tree supports are set up for the ‘wings’ on the starship. No support is required for the Smoke and Fire base.
  • Colours: In project I have included I have pre-painted both models for printing in multiple colours. If you wish to just print them in one colour, just right click each model and re-assign their colour to a new filament.

Assembly

The Starship can be used on a tree or free standing on it's own, but if you do print the base, the star ship just slots directly onto it like this:

Fitting LEDS

To fit LEDs to the base, just hook the end of them over the bar at the top of the base, then fit the starship ontop:

[UPDATE]

I have uploaded an updated version of the base file with the LED hook moved closer to one edge so it's now much easier to slide the top of a tree through:

Placement

Regardless of whether you use the base or not, this model can be mounted as a tree topper, or can be used free-standing (for example on a desk or shelf)

MultiColour Printing (AMS)

If you're interested in printing in multiple colours with an AMS, fear not, the 3mf I have included for this features both models pre-painted in Bambu Studio so you don't need to spend time re-painting them.

If you'd prefer to print in one colour, simply remove the custom paint job on them.

Single Colour Printing (No AMS)

If you don't have an AMS, would prefer to just manually paint it yourself after printing, or if you need a super fast print, you may prefer not to use my pre-painted profile. Whilst it looks fantastic, it takes over a day to print and does require an AMS.

However, I've now added a secondary profile which will print out in the same quality but in one colour. It takes LESS than 5 hours to print both parts, and uses only 125g of filament (again, for both parts, in total)!

Turned out great! Using a LED 001 Kit makes the smoke/flame really pop. I look forward to the adapter we discussed!

Looks great! I'm going to be ordering one of those lights in the next couple of weeks hopefully as since we chatted I've got a growing list of things I want to design for it (the first of which will be an adaptor for this)

Print came out smooth. I used a silver silk filament in addition to the basic black, white, and yellow.

I used the single color print, gray for the starship and orange for the flame clouds. I think this is a fantastic model and look forward to getting the colors for the multi color print.
